Default TD's exhaust drone in 6th gear, at 2000 RPM

Got my TD's indesigned and installed, and the only problem I have is an annnoying exhaust drone only in 6th gear at 2000RPM an higher. It makes the droning noise and lightly vibrates the wholear. BTW, there is no rasp at all. This is all drone. TD pics in sig.

Drive in 5th gear, or any other gear for that matter, no droning or vibration at all. Smooth as silk.

There is no chance its a driveline vibration. Push the clutch and let off the gas and the droning goes away at any highway speed.

Also there are not any pipes touching the chassis at anywhere. Overall clearance is good.

I am wondering if I may need additional pipe hangers. Could it be a longer run of pipe simply vibrating? Also might be able to put a pair of 12" long, 4" diameter resonators just before the exhausttips.

Any other thoughts on hw to resolve this?

What kind of muffler/resonator are you running on your true duals now?

I am running a Magnaflow dual in/out internal X muffler. No cats.
Pics are in the sig.

I did find a large area of loose pipe on the right side pipe exiting the muffler. The hanger has a good deal of slop from being damaged during fabbing.

could just be the natural frequency of the exhaust note.

basically like an internal resonance in the pipes/muffler.

pushing the clutch in drops the rpms and also the load on the engine, changing the "perameters" that are causing the resonance.

its kindda the nature of the beast. you could try some bullets...maybe before the axle

Update:
Finally some success in reducing the drone. The 6th gear 2000 RPM vibes are nearly gone and the audible drone is maybe 50% better.

I removed the only NON factory hanger that I installed just before the dual pipes go over the axle. Obviously the pipes resonate right here and they were transferring resonance to the chassis. Right now I am only using the OEM factory hangers.

I would like to further reduce the 6th gear drone. I am still looking at installing a pair of resonators between the x-pipe and just before the dual pipes go over the axle.

Things are still perfect with 1st through 5th gears. No drone period.

Looking at these:

I used the classic chambered powerpack on my original duals when i had single chambered's and had the same drone problem as you. They worked pretty good, now im just running magnaflow 4x9s at the bumper http://www.eadperformance.com/catalo...rekiblnyyzzhqd They are now off the car if you want them $50 shipped

Thanks for the reply.

Did the resonators reduce any of the "desirable" exhaust sounds? Or did it simply kill the drone?
Those will be too long. I need the ones that are 14" body to fit right.

Basically just killed some of the drone. The 1 chambers mounted at the bumper droned really bad, these made it livable. i ran just the powerpacks dumped under the car for a while and it was as almost as loud as open headers.

Thanks for the compliment.

Problem fixed. It was not exhaust drone at all. It was a driveline vibration. I flipped the DS and all is good now.
