Default Fast 90/90 on a stock LS1 in a 3rd gen Formula

Hello,

I am sure that this question was asked before, but I was not able to find it amidst the forum`s vastness, so I apologise for the newbie`s question.

Onto the question now:

I want to achieve something about 420 hp on the engine by putting on a new intake manifold + tb, GM hot cam kit + good rocker arms. I`ve read enough to know that FAST LSX intake is the best out there, plus it`s not made of metal and does not heat too much, which i find uselful since I drag a lot.

My question is: will a FAST 90 with a 90 mm TB not be too much for the stock LS1 engine? I of course intend to put in a GM hot cam kit and in the future swap the heads for some AFRs.

Thanks in advance for help.

Kind regards
Marcin

most will argue that it wont do anything, but there is very little actual proof of that.

i DO know one of the guys on here put a FAST on a stock LS2 and picked up good power...granted that was over the crappy ls2 intake...basically as bad as the ls1 intake.

if you plan on cam later, it won't hurt.

Any particular advice on which TB I should buy?

Regards

Nick williams has good tb's get the 92mm intake +tb. But from what I have heard you need to back away from the HOT cam kit. It does very little for performance, just ask about cams on this forum and noone will suggest the hot cam. There are much better cams out there.

NIce Formula Face Man!!! Looks pretty sharp...agreed, there are better cams out there and since you plan on doing H/C in the future, better to start off right and do the FAST now, the gains will be greater down the road once you've done the H/C swap.

Thank you very much for the answer I was looking for and kind words on my car

I put a lot of work into it and I intend to put a lot lot more

So I am ordering the 92 mm FAST and 90 mm TB!

Bonestock99 -> What other cams would you recommend?

Titan WS6 -> Your Formula is also sweet! I love black wheels with polished rim.

Thanks again for all the answers.

PS: Here is a bigger pic of my car.

All depends on how big you want to go on your cam. What size converter do you have/plan to have in he car?

Right now the converter is stock. The engine/trans combo is from `98 LS1 Camaro, but I am going to swap in a T56 hopefully somewhere in 2010.

Okay, then you can go fairly large as far as cam and still be really streetable (as long as you have a decent tuner)

Thanks.

What I want is a 480 hp on the engine or as much as I can have without enlarging the displacement, by stroker or resleeving and making a car non streetable beast. The car on the street does 13,427 and is fast enough to outrun Porsche 911 Carrera 996. My goal is the streetable car that can hold it`s own on the quarter mile too. So after the intake mods goes camshaft, rocker arms then heads. I do not want to supercharge/turbocharge it.

I could see the car making ~450whp with the AFRs and a decent sized cam (around ms3 specs). There are several cam gurus on here (pat G, predatorz for example) that you could talk to that could really help you out with the cam specs considering you do not have a normal setup. Do you know the weight of the car? Also, i don't know how much you want to track it, but the 98's had pretty weak rod bolts, so you might want to change them. Making that kind of power, the 4l60 in stock form is not going to last for long, neither will the 10 bolt if you put tires on it.

So my goal can be achieved without enlarging the displacement

The car weighs as a stock 3rd gen Formula, my european catalog lists it at 1450 kg (it was a 5,0 TBI car). But I swapped the rear spoiler for a custom fiberglass replica which saves few kgs and the LS1 is probably lighter than the L03 5,0 TBI engine since it`s an alloy enginge.

Thanks for the contacts I will ask for a cam spec.

I also heard that 1998 LS1s have some weaknesses and generally should not be stressed too much and not turbo or supercharged. Is it true?

Cheers
Marcin

don't buy a Fast throttle body unless its dirt cheap (under $200), they ******* blow...I had to grind and polish on mine to make it not stick and hang

try to get a nick williams or some other good brand

and you could get more bang for your buck by doing other things before the fast swap, it was a nice gain for me but I am cammed...plus I got my stuff used cheap so I had under $700 in the swap, if I had spent over a grand I would be pissed

look in the classifieds here and you can prolly find an intake for around $5-600 so you can at least save some money
