GMMG's in, fitment problem 99 T/A A4 For you GMMG owners, i have a few questions/problems; The one regular c clamp that comes with the kit holds the I pipe onto the factory Y pipe correct? Secondly, did you have any problems securing the i pipe to the rest of the exhaust? Either i'm being to gentle on that clamp or that stainless doesn't want to give because i can not get that junction even remotely tight enough. The whole setup "pivots" there allowing the i pipe to hit the floor. Also did you guys have to massage the heat shielding by the gas tank any? Thanks for the help, i just assumed this kit would fit a little better than this. |
for the i pipe issue i would take and have it welded up out of the way or it will rattle against your floor board. that is what mine does just havent had time to take it to the muffler stop. as for the heat shield on the gas tank i had to bend mine just a little bit but thats not a big deal just bend it out of the way |
yes, i had all these issues. get the exhaust connected the best you can, then have it welded. the heat shield can be bent easily with a pay bar |
UPDATE: I got a different style of clamp that is like a band clamp but it has a lip on both outer edges of the "band". I used that where the i pipe connects the rear assy, with one lip on the i pipe and the other on the rear assy. That thing couldn't be any tighter! I also massaged the heat sheild under the gas tank. Initially i was hoping that this would be good enough to get me by for a few days until i could get it welded, but I have no NVH or exhaust leaks so im leaving it as is until i do have a problem. The clamp by the way is a 3" bleed air clamp designed for aircraft. |
lol nice fix!:thumb: you should def post up a vid though. |
Installed mine today, had same problem with front pipe close to floor and hitting tank shield, just have work it out of way and tighten,do not like how tips are not close to bumper tho. |
I agree about the tips, I'm not happy with them at all. I'm going to re install my mecham oval clones after I modify them slightly. Overall though this catback far exceeded what I was expecting! I couldn't be happier. |
just curious, how much did you pay/where'd u buy? |

That would be me and here's the link: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ew-videos.html I'm going to try and get more and better videos it was windy that day also. We just got done with some nasty snow here. Basically I got Kooks LT and Kooks catted Y they cut the Y out and installed 2 bends into the x-pipe and the rest of the pipes I got from bassani. |
