is high 11's/low 12's possible on daily driver?
Hi All, Wondering if it's possible to get my Trans Am to low 11's/low 12's on street tires while keeping it a DAILY DRIVER and with just adding a CAM to my current setup...
1999 Trans Am WS6 (6 Speed)
STOCK REAR END
STOCK LS6 Heads
STOCK LS6 Intake
SLP Lid
Pacesetter LT's
Borla Exhaust
Rear Lower Control Arms
Sub Frame Connectors
Torque Arm
Custom Tune
Like I said, I want to keep it my daily driver, not add drag radials/slicks (Due to stock rear end) and just add a bigger cam...is it possible?

A cam will help you make more power to get you there . Plenty of cam only D/D cars in the 11's . I will be going there myself But,,, if you cant get it to the ground, its not going to help . A M6 on street full tires will be a chore ( to say the least ) . You could get some NO2 , wait til second gear to hit it ?? Pray for the best

Its possible on street tires, I've seen it done in person but the guy driving it knew what he was doing and it was no where near full weight. Why not put a cam in it, or a bottle, hell, why not both!! That will streetable and you can leave soft to save the rear then hammer it from 2nd gear on. With the bottle you might still spin in 2nd. IMHO, you need aleast drag radials to get there full weight.

Thanks BENE for clearing that up about the streets. Doesn't seem like anyoen reads lol Umm I want to keep it NA if possible. Only thing I've eliminated for weight is the spare tire and jack.
So, Is it at all possible or no? No one has really given a straight answer. If so, what kind of cam would I want? Specs that is

its easily possible with an auto n a big stall, with an m6 its a different story, did you put "stock" ls6 heads on it, cuz they dont come on it "stock"
a cam will easily make the car trap over 116 (high 11 second car) but youre ganna have trouble launching, so if you just want the thrill of an 11 second car/ be able to beat other 11 second cars, and dont care about having a slip that says 11s on it, a cam will get you there easily

yeah I mean SOME DAY I will purchase a new 9" rear end but right now it's not in the cards. I'm still in University and have to pull some strings to get a cam and springs. Any idea on some cam specs I should look into to help me reach the goal of a fast as hell street car with street tires?

patrick g will spec you out a cam for $25, i think he worked out a deal with comp to get the price of the cam down too?
otherwise just give comp or thunder racing a call... anything in the 224/.580 range is very streetable, anything in the 230/.600 range is streetable and will haul ***, anything ober 236/.600 is starting to stray away from being a dd cam (note: i havent looked into ls1 cams in over a year and this is only based on what ive read)

its def possible but it will take a lot to get you in the 11s. you need a lot of practice driving, suspension/tire perfect, good heads, intake, exhaust. A cam that will have good average power with keeping pressure spikes to a min. A 224ish 117 LSA and you will have to spin the **** out of the motor. this will still give you a good mannered car for the street. don't know if you'll get away without changing the valve springs often.
imo anything more than 228 is too much for me in my DD.
