Default 1 3/4 LT vs 1 7/8 LT

how limited will i be (HP) with 1 3/4 over 1 7/8 long tubes.

i know the 1 7/8 stepped to 2 in is prefered but with the 3rd gen swap im doing the largest i can find is the 1 7/8.

unless someone can point me in the direction of who makes some bigger headers.

Unless your running major hp you wont benefit from the larger headers

there have been tests showing 1 7/8 headers even on a SI gaining over 1 3/4...

IIRC it was two different brands though...

TSP 1 7/8
pacesetter 1 3/4

so if your decision was to get pacesetter I would just go with the tsp's...

but the results might be different if it was qtp or kooks 1 3/4

What Chris said. I did a search for this not too long ago and found very long arguments about this. Supposedly even on a complete stock engine, you won't lose anything with the 1 7/8 headers, and possibly gain a little up top.

But others argued that on a stock or mildly modified engine, you will lose low end torque with the 1 7/8 compared to 1 3/4.

I say you really can't go wrong with either, unless you plan on going crazy with the engine, then 1 7/8 will leave you more room to upgrade.

I have kooks 1 7/8th....3" ypipe, 4" merge, 4" cutout, reduced to stock catback. I got them figuring "do it once and do it right" in order for there to be room for more....either f/i or big cubes/nitrous. I trap 112/113mph with 4.11 gears, ls6 intake, and lid. Raceweight probably around 3800-3900lbs. I say there is no real disadvantage to going 1 7/8ths over 1 3/4s on a stock if there is ANY inclination that it will be modded with more than simple bolt ons.

But since you've also considered 2" primaries, we need some more info on your setup.

thanks for all of the comments, but i guess i should have been more specific.

i know bigger is better in most cases. i am in the process of doing a ls1 3rd gen swap, i have not been able to find any thing bigger than 1 3/4 long tubes for this swap. i know i can have some 1 7/8 stepped custom made but that is very costly.

i guess the question i was really asking is what is the maximum HP limitations to a 1 3/4 header weather it be N/A or N2o 500?? 600?? more? less?

i am trying to justify spending $1300 - 1600 for a custom one off set of headers.

i dont really know how crazy i will get with the motor but as of now it is a stock cubed H/C/I with a little bit of spray. i am figuring about 460-70ish on motor but i dont know its just a guess from what i have been reading about setups similar to mine.

again if any one knows who makes bigger headers for the 3rd gens please let me know.

as stated the limitation of 1 3/4 headers is a stock internal engine...hense why there is gains from going to a bigger size...
