Default Whisper Lid Fitment is Garbage!

The lid fit is horrible ... the rubber acordian thing is totally pushed to together which pushes the lid against the clamps that hold the lid down .... i opened my hood to show my brother the lid and the clamp's had popped off and it was not sealed!!! When you need to use duct tape to hold it down ..... Its not a good product!!! Perormance was great though... felt a huge diff in power!!! And sounds great ...

I have seen a few that the outer two tabs would not fit and you would have to push it down hard to make them go in.

Mine's been perfect for 5 years on two cars.

Maybe they have changed their design for the worse?

Get yourself a smooth bellows (any kind). Trim it at an angle (measure roughly the angle from your TB to your MAF when lid is in place sans bellows) and cut it down till you no longer have all this pressure pushing it forward. It should sit just right.

Oh, and tell your bra we miss him at the Street Racing & Kills forum. He makes us laugh.

Before I got my Suncoast SS Hood and Ram Air Box, I had the Whisper lid. When I first installed it it did the same thing. I opened it up and pushed back harder sliding the tabs in a little further and is closed no problem If you just mess with it a little bit I'll bet you can get it to fit.

Good Luck,

Al

Mine didn't fit perfect when I first got it over a year ago. It can be made to work though with little effort.

New tubing from the MAF to TB works.

Try this first. Bear with me, this is hard to explain. Once you have the lid in place about ready to clamp it down, push the front lip of the lid inside the front lip of the lower airbox. If you get it right it'll clamp down just fine and take any kind of abuse. I'm 99.9% sure it's still sealed (I've been doing it this way for over a year). and it doesn't stress the lid or the lower airbox much at all.

I had a whisper lid and the fitment sucked with the K&N. Even with the gasket it wasn't fully sealed at the rear underneath the neck going to the maf. I got the Holley and it sealed better but there was still a gap back there. Got the TSP clear lid and it was a much better fit plus I can see if everything is sealed correctly. One way to tell if your intake is completely sealed is reach in underneath the filter and push up. If the filter moves around the edges you're letting unfiltered air into your engine. The aftermarket lids have quality issues and I think people need to make sure they have everything sealed up tight. Otherwise you're trashing your engine.

INSTALL ERROR!

Make sure the front lip on the lid is IN the groove in the lower airbox. The clips popping off is a classic sign that you have it installed wrong.

You would be amazed at how many people mess this up.

well on my lid its a TSP and yes i have smooth bellow, but i have seen the same thing on my friends car, and the smooth bellow help keep it in place a lot better. my friends whisper lid pops the front clips out once in a while now, and before the rear would pop out sometimes. the front clips i think is from his bellow.
