ARP HEADERS now i'm confused My car is a 2001 SS camaro 6-speed stock. Not going to do any other mods, heads cams etc. I am going to purchase arp headers with their the catted y-pipe. Does anyone have any dyno sheets or info on 1 3/4 vs 1 7/8? All set to get 1 3/4 with dyno tune, when I was told that there have been comparison tests, and even on the stock ls1 like mine better numbers could be gotten with the 1 7/8. Now I am looking for some input backed by facts. Also what is the feeling on coated stainless steel headers vs non coated, and its effect on a dyno tune? |
There are quite a few threads on this and yes from what I've researched its stupid not to go 1 7/8. They don't lose power down low (from graphs I've seen) and the gain exponentially more vs 1 3/4 as you mod (i know you say you're not going to, but... even stock they made more power). Coating will just help keep heat in and I am sure its arguable about "scavenging" and similar from the heat in the runners, but essentially on a dynograph I couldn't imagine horsepower being gained from having them coated. Keeping heat down in an engine bay is a great thing however since other aspects of the tune can be affected by AIT and similar. |
RS77, Thanks for the quick reply. i haven't stayed on top of this for a few years. I had always read 1 3/4 are better for a stock situation. Your response confirmed what i am being told now. |
Yeah its an interesting concept why bigger wouldn't be better **fitment obviously comes into play when you get too large** when it comes to getting exhaust out of the car (if tuned properly) or how you could lose power from runners being too large. |
As previously posted: I guess I don't get why anyone would go bigger than 1 3/4? For this slightly beefed up '01 Camaro with HP/TQ: 1300/800, 1 3/4 was just FINE!: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...o_pistons.html :gtfo: |
Post your "PROOF"! Dyno pictures please, comparing BOTH. :D
