like any diesel shuts off, the rpms slowly come to a stop instead of stopping immediately..

It's called "dieseling", it's caused by detonation after the motor is shut off..leaky injectors? Running lean, turning the spark plugs into a glow plug when you try to shut down? Do you get any knock or pre-det while it is running? Does it run hot or overheat?

If it's running rich there's too much fuel in the combustion chamber causing engine run-on. Get your tune dialed in and it should stop.

You need fuel in order for an engine to run on, so the injectors must be leaking. Combined with hots spots of carbon on the pistons lighting up the fuel.

In the old days, this was a common problem because the fuel would keep on pumping and being sucked out of the carb. I had an old POS that used to run on, if it got hot enough, for about 30 seconds after I turned off the ignition. Funny as hell.

Might not hurt to seafoam the engine to help clean carbon and gunk that might be igniting...
Do you run a catch can or filter out the pcv oil blow by?
