Car is self-tuning '00 SS M6. Just put on some 243's, custom grind cam, ls6 intake, 42lb'ers, and the rest of the supporting mods. I left the stock injectors in until I could get it tuned. Drove it around a little before the tune, and obviously it wasn't driving great. Once I'd start driving, I'd push the clutch in to slow down, or even shift gears, and the rpm's would jump to 2k or so and would just hang there for a while. Self-Tuning part: If I came to a stop, and just let the rpm's slowly decrease down to normal idling, the car would drive fine after that. It would shift fine and idle fine after coming to a stop. I just had the car tuned and it was driving great for the first few miles of the trip home. Further into the trip, the car started doing the same thing it was doing before the tune. I called and talked to the shop that tuned it, and they are aware and told me to bring it back for them to look at. I'm not bashing them at all...they're great to deal with. I was told that it may be TB/TPS related, so I tried adjusting the blade set screw. I'd either adjust it too much or too little. There's no in-between! The TB is ported, so I was going to try a stock TB, but I can't find mine. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks! |
Hope someone has a clue Joe, I'm ready to see that thing rip |
I'm still searching for my stock TB. If I ever find it, I hope that fixes the problem. |
Your stock TB will not fix it. It sounds like you have an issue with your throttle follower. If your tuner wasn't able to fix it, you may need to take it somewhere else. If you can get a copy of your tune file, post it up in the tuning section for the guys there to look at. |
Jacking with the screw won't help IMO. |
The screw is only there to prevent the blade from sticking in the throttle body. If you open it too much it causes the TPS to read past 0% at idle which causes a whole other set of problems. I missed the part where he said he messed with it. |

Joe where did you get the ported throttle body? Did you buy it off KC? On another note, were the 243s stock or ported or anything? Sodium filled valves and the triangle marked castings? |

I pretty much guarantee that throttle body is passing too much air and causing his idle to hang. Mine did it, and my buddy's that I just fixed did it, and the blade was the culprit. The ported stock throttle body I *think* he has used to be mine, then I sold it (without ever using it, got a NW 92 instead) and the next buyer after me painted it black said he had problems with the blade. I believe Jantzer ported it. |
I ported it myself, and made sure not to get too close to the blade closing point. So, I know that can't be the problem. I'm pretty certain that it has nothing to do with the tune. It was doing the same thing before I even put the H/C on the car. I had a buddy clean up the tune (after the H/C swap) and it was still doing it. And now with the complete retune, it's still doing it. That's why I don't think it's the tune. TPS gone bad maybe? |
are you sure the red rubber o-ring was reinstalled on the iac sensor? |
We got it figured out, put a stock tb on it and it was a-ok. |
^ Yep! It's been running good ever since then. Glad it was an easy fix. Thanks everyone |
Yep. But now your problematic TB is on my car and it works great. WTF??? lol |
Yeah, what's the deal with that?! Oh well, I think you may have rubbed your curse onto my car, haha. |
lol These crazy 2000's.... |
