LS1 Valve Cover Breather/// PCV Valve (NEW DESIGN)
So... After checking out a few engine mods i wanted to know if the crankcase valve cover breather was a plus at all in reguards to hp preasure build up or if it was really needed at all. Ive noticed the leake around the gasket before in a few of my other cars. It looked cool and it was only 60 bucks on ws6.com but i wanted to know if anyone else had any ideas. And the pcv valve well... Stated that burning up to 1 quart every 3k miles. Gm issued a service bulletin to adress the issue on all gen iii engines. That they replaced the ball-type pcv valve with a new fixed orifice design to help reduce oil consumption on your ls1. Any issues? words of wisdom appriciated

I put a breather on my LY6... all LSx motors use oil but I believe it is due to the PCV system. On my LY6 I haven't used a drop of oil... versus a quart+ every oil change on my old LS1

I *just* replaced my PCV valve -- we will see if it makes any difference in oil consumption (even though the ball DID rattle around ok on the stocker)... My guess is oil is also blowing by the rings...
Is the breather also recommended by GM now too? I don't recall any GM engines coming with one standard.

You can use a breather if the PCV is disconnected from the intake or the PCM is re-tuned for the unmeasured air. Having said that, it is possible to get away without the re-tune, keeping in mind that she's gonna run a tad lean; nothing dangerous, but, lean. Will also stumble a little, at first, as the PCM adjusts. Also, oil will blow out of the breather.
In my experience, the LS engine pushes far more oil through the PCV than through the rings. Would be surprised to see a healthy LS push any oil through the rings. Use a catch can for best results. Catch can will keep the intake clean & catch the oil so that it can be dumped back into the engine.

I tried a new style PCV valve and didn't notice any difference, still oil in the intake. I also put on an LS6 valley cover and that didn't help either. So now I have a REV extreme catch can that I'll be putting on.. hopefully that will solve it. I have since swapped the old style PCV valve back on.

thanks for the info man.. I guess I'll run my catch can for now.. and when I have some extra dough laying around I'll get this.. Running no pcv valve and all the rubber lines looks better.
Question though, what if I were to pull mine off and drill holes in the bottom? Do you know if that's the only difference?

What is wrong with running the truck style setup where you pull the PCV from the rear of the driver's side valve cover? The newer truck valve covers like what's on my LY6 has a similar baffling setup underneath like the valley cover shown above. It could be connected to the rear vacuum port on a car style intake.

i pulled my passenger side PCV setup off and just run a hose with the stock PCV hole and valve from the passenger side with my new cam, but when i pulled my oil cap off, it seems to have built up alot of pressure in the crankcase....is this pressure good for the motor, or should i put the passenger side hoses back on?

I've only had my 102 swap with an LS6 valley running for a couple minuted. Had to take the intake back off to fix a coolant leak and my intake ports already had a thin film of oil on them.
I'm not thinking this oil is coming from the valley cover. Thinking it's coming from the last valve cover breather remaining. I'm gonna go look here in a minute.
And yeah, I picked up the fixed orifice PCV valve, but I haven't put it in yet wondering if the valley cover is pulling this much oil through or not.

No the pressure isnt good for a motor the PCV is alos used to pull the harmfull contaminats that turn to gases as your oil breaks down out of the crank case. If your not going to run the factory PCV system you should deffinetly run a catch can or a header evac system
i dont have smog where i live do it doesnt matter

Bringing up a dead thread here but how many PCV's is everyone running? There's a port on each valve cover and one on the valley if you have a ls6 cover. 1, 2, or all 3?
If I make the 2 valve covers vent to filters with check valves and leave the ls6 valley plummed in I think I'll have less oil consumption
