Engine oil weight wright-up!..??? Hey, does anyone have or know of a good engine oil weight wright-up? ... Tried a search but found nothing that I was satisfied with.
I hear people talking about bobistheoilguy.com, that or google it.
There is also a lot of info on this site about oil, prolly just type in "best oil" or something to that nature. I did that once and read enough about oils and what people use to last me a lifetime.

What are your questions? The 3 best off the shelf combos IMO (Excluding AMSOil, you have to order that) are German Casrtol 0w-30, Mobil 1 0W-40 and Mobil 1 5W-30 and 15W-50 mixed (5qts of 5W30, 1 qt of 15W50)

I used GC 0w-30 on my first motor in this car. I didn't really notice any difference other than what sounded like more valve train noise. I'm currently on a 10w-40 right now. Thinking about trying out RP 10w-30.

Don't you realize that your manual AND Pontiac will tell you that 10w40 will cause bearing failure in your motor. The composition of the oil molecules are to thick to get in and properly lubricate your bearings. Go to 10w30 quick!!!
My old 2000 Z28 and ran regular castrol GTX 10w-30. Never had a problem with it.
My current car is a 2002 Z28 and i ran castrol syntec 5W-40. i just switched to castrol syntec 5w-30 and never had any problems. Always had good oil pressure, and never really any ticking issues, or oil consumption.

If one was going to switch brands and weights (10w40 to 0w30 for example) would one need to flush the entire system or would just a normal drain and fill with new filter be enough?

And yes to your reply to my post. But overall LS and LT cars both like a thick 30 weight/thin 40 weight. M1 is a thin 30 weight, RP is even thinner. The 0W-40 is a thin 40 weight and Castrol 0W-30 is a thick 30 weight. Both produce similar wear numbers and arguably the best wear numbers. I recommend both, the M1 more so because for some reason its harder to come by GC and M1 is over $1 cheaper at Wal Mart.
