LS6 Intake or LT's?

Which way first?

1998 Z28 Camaro

Stock car except Borla Catback and Whisper Lid. What would be best next, LS6 Intake and ported TB or LT's and ORY?

I would personally do the LT's. Then save up for a LS6 or Fast 90/90. Get a tune afterwards.

The LTs and ORY will require a tune(get rid of EGR and rear 02s) but will knock some weight off and offer good power. If you don't want to tune LS6 intake and ported TB is a nice mod and can be bought used on here for around $400. Expect about 2 tenths and over 1MPH improvement if you race the car at the track

id recommend longtubes, you will love the sound, period. and i think it offers a higher hp/tq gain than moving to ls6. will need a tune though,

headers

Thanks guys and I am going without air/egr and rear 02 sensors but I don't need a tune like immediately right? I can wait a couple weeks?

i can my car for a year without a tune and it ran like a beast...i only needed a tune to pass emissions/inspection to get ride of the codes....i would do the exhaust then ls6 intake/ported TB combo all will gain you nicely...mine intake will be up for sale sometime this winter !!! good luck

as everyone said headers first. despite the gains you will like the sound and all :P

I'd go with the LT & ORY package first, but that's just my personal recommendation - not sure you can go wrong if you do it the other way first.

I've owned a couple pre 01 LS1 f-body's and I've modded them both ways so I'll share my experiance:

The more power you make, the more you'll pick up going from an LS1 intake to an LS6.

Say you have a bone stock motor making about 280rwhp. Going from an LS1 to LS6 intake won't wake it up much at all. You're making stock power so the intake isn't a really a massive restriction at this point. It'll breath better but it's not going to FEEL much faster. You might feel a little more tug on the top end but that's about it.

Now lets say you do the exhaust first (big bottle neck) and you're making about 320rwhp. Now your car needs more air coming in to compliment the free flowing exhaust. At this point your intake is holding you back a lot more than it was before. You throw an LS6 intake on it now and it is going to make a much more noticable difference. Especially in the mid and upper RPM range.

For me I like really being able to feel every mod that I do, and when I did the LS6 intake first I didn't feel shit. BUT when I did my full exhaust on my LS6 intake car it felt like it picked up a lot more than when I put full exhaust on my LS1 intaked car.

So long story short, if you like feeling the difference an LS6 intake makes do it after exhaust. And put a ported TB on it at the same time.

i say LTs also. like said above not only will you like the power but you will also love the sound

Tyler_LS1 Dec 1, 2010 04:30 PM

I'd go LTs first then the LS6 intake later

svg210 Dec 1, 2010 04:36 PM

^^^
word! I gained 2mph on my trap speed when I bolted on an LS6 intake.

ULTIMATEORANGESS Dec 1, 2010 06:02 PM

ill also recommend LTs. no going wrong there.

z99ls1 Dec 1, 2010 08:57 PM

I think I gained more with my ls6 intake than with the headers.
