LT's with cats questions

my cats are going bad and dont want to spend $400 on stock replacements when i plan on installing LT's in the future..... so im thinking, future is now!
So im looking for advice on which route to go while keeping the budget around $700-800. My current setup is stock headers/cats with SLP Y-pipe and a magnaflo catback.

im thinking:

BBK LT's with y $370
Magnaflo Spun Cats $150 (weld them in myself)
Gaskets $35
O2 extensions x3? $45
O2 Weld in bung $20
Locking Bolts $40
DiabLew Custom Tune $100 (i have the preditor tuner)

Total $760

Anything im missing? Changes/suggestions/advice? Thanks!

id just use stock bolts instead ive reused mine for 2 years now and i removed headers 3 times! work perfectly fine. invest the money on some motor mounts while your there you wont regret this later. and tune can wait till your cam swap :secret2:

thanks for the advice! would you suggest poly or solid mounts?

omarrakeen May 27, 2011 05:40 PM

is it your dd? if so then stay away from solids i heard they shake pretty bad on idle..i never tried them tho. am going with poly next week :) gd luck with the install. and btw are those bbk that come with 2.5 Y?

yes its my DD so poly sounds like a good idea. yes its the one with the 2.5" y

go for it, its a good quality combo but remember 2.5 is going to be a restriction with anything in the future . what cat back your going with?

I honestly would only get 2 O2 extensions. I also have the BBK LT's/ORY and I found a proper size drain plug for the rears which cost a total of like $5. That way you can save the rears in case one of the fronts dies.

im staying with the magnaflow.
will passing emissions be an issue after removing that stupid AIR system?

wont i need the rear o2 with the cats?
im also thinking of maybe holding off on doing the cats until i need to go through emissions and just do the headers/ypipe/mounts/tune.?! just thinking out loud....typing out loud...kinda idk

what do you mean about the drain plugs?

WhiteHawk489 May 27, 2011 06:37 PM

oh ok i misunderstood. so the fronts will reach (o2's)but i need extensions for the rears and the drain plugs are for the rear bungs. where did you get the drain plugs?

omarrakeen May 27, 2011 08:34 PM

you got it backwards. you need extensions for the front to reach your headers collectors. but the rears will be fine i *think* and no dont go ory then weld on cats, do it once and be done with it. cats wont rob any hp. it will sound better with cats.

WhiteHawk489 May 27, 2011 09:00 PM

i understand now thanks!

You don't necessarily need O2 Sensor Extensions. Follow the write-up in the following thread...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...vette-o2s.html

It explains how to swap the pins in the PCM, so the Rear O2 Sensor Harnesses (which will reach the bungs in your new headers) will control the Front O2s.

I wish I would have had this information when I did my (and other's) LT Installs. Could have saved us over $100 between us.

Also, I highly agree with omarrakeen. You should definitely get a set of Prothane Poly Motor Mounts. There is no better time to install them as when you have the exhaust off the motor and outta the way. Plus they'll prevent the new pipes from banging on your floor boards.

Good luck. :thumb:

Isn't the bbk lt/cat y combo the same price or just as close as the lt & seperate cats you are looking at?

WhiteHawk489 May 28, 2011 11:22 PM

i havent seen a lt w/ cat combo from bbk. do you have a model number or a link?

99Bluz28 May 29, 2011 12:17 AM

BBK doesn't offer it with a catted Y-pipe, also the 2.5" to 3" merger Y-pipe really isn't much of a restriction compared to 3" to 3" merger Y-pipe since they both have a 3" exit.
