Whats the recommended rpm for shifting? URGENT*
So im having a debate with my Dad and Uncle as to what the safest rpm to shift at.
My mods are in sig, but they tell me that i shouldnt shift higher then 5500rpms. Now ive been told by several people to shift at around 5800-6000rpms. I just want to find out from the mighty LS1tech nation whose right, because i cant seem to find straight answers online.
Around 5500rpms or around 6000rpms?

i'd say with those mods around 6000 would be "safe". i mean people at the tracks shift even higher than that a lot of the times. but pretty much stock i'd say 5500 rpm isn't the "absolute safe limit". although when your at that rpm your put a lot more strain on things and if anything's gonna break it would then. but you won't redline the engine and blow it to pieces revving it to 6000 rpm

Thats what i thought aswell, i know the vettes are at a redline of 6500rpms so what gives. its the same motor right other than I think a slight difference in cam and the pushrods i believe.

i belive our stock rev limiter is set to 6200 rpms, but your ideal power band would be to shift at 5800 since you dont have longtubes and have no need to shift that high. i shift at 6300-6400 on the track only cause that is how far my cam goes, and i still have stock rod bolts. never had a problem

Guy,look... You need to put that on a dyno to find out where your car makes its peak hp and peak torque ,get you a shift light set it for that rpm where your car peaks at so you can acheive optimum shifts.

The stock cam, pushrods and valve springs are the exact reasons you would not shift a stock LS1 past the high 5ks. It doesn't make power that high and the valvetrain is unstable. They changed the correct parts to make it desirable and safe to shift past 6k.

haha jk. yeah 01ssreda4 has a good point. completely stock shift high 5k. like i said earlier i like to shift right under 6k or did with a stock car. now that i have a ms3 cam, new rods and heads i like to shift around 6500
