Cleaning the intake... got a couple q's I recently installed the AMW can and noticed a film of oil in the intake. So I have decided to clean it and found some 3M intake cleaner at Carquest. My question is I plan to do a Sea Foam treatment also and can't decide which to do first. I am thinking the Sea Foam first and then finish up with the 3M cleaner. Any thoughts? I plan to air out the intake really well before firing it up...don't want a :bomb: backfire. |
Ok.....what are others doing to clean their oiled intakes? |
When we did a Heads install for a buddy took the intake off and sprayed it out. Worked quite well. Havent messed with one on the car yet. |
If your doing it on car do the sea-foam first. Then the 3M next. Just full throttle start it & it wont flood. Do not use the whole can & try to start it, do partial cleanings & then fire it up. I say 1/4 can at the most at a time. You'll never get it as clean as you could by removing it though. |
Thanks for the input.....knowing me I would have sprayed the whole can. What am I gaining from this cleaning? It just bothers me that oil is where it shouldn't be. Oh yeah, should I avoid spraying towards the head intake ports? Thanks, man. |
A cleaner intake should flow better. I would clean it as much as possible, Just start it more often during cleaning. Heck you can prolly just full throttle crank it over, let it hit & spin a sec & shut it down. All with the thottle bore open no intake hose. Just be prepared if it back fires out the intake. Alot of repair shops do this same thing it's called decarbonizing. |
