16mm hole on driver's side of block for temp readings?

Has anyone used the 16mm hole on the drivers side of the block near the front of the engine for a temperature sender for a temperature gauge? I assume it is like the hole at the passenger's rear side of the block.

I've got a VDO sender that won't adapt to the 12mm head hole, and I really don't want it behind the starter, when this hole is much more accessible.

Anyone has done a comparison of temperature readings with different locations? I really don't know the coolant flow pattern in the block, but this is closer to where the engine computer reads.

Thanks for responding.
