shorty's vs. long tubes?? which is better!?! hey just wondering what everyone thinks, which setup is better?! shorties or long tubes?! |
Long Tubes most deffinatly. The shorties done show a significant gain over the factory manifolds. For the labor involved do the long tubes. Nate |
All depends on your setup. Without a doubt LT's are better for performance, but if your looking for clearance (or your car is lowered) then shorties/midlength might be a better choice. |
The only time shorties are better, is if you're a subject of some fascist government that imposes biannual cavity searches. |
Long tubes by a mile are better than shorties. But if your in CA, shorties are the only legal way to go. As you can see, the laws still don't prevent people like myself and jrp from buying illegal headers :eyes: ;) |
A lot of people have had really good results with MAC's and other midlength headers. I had MAC's but switched to Jet Hots and like them much better. They sound and feel different. As far as ground clearace... I didnt loose any switching to the long tubes vice the MAC's. |
I have never had long tubes, i'm going on word of mouth. My buddy has long tubes and HAL QA1 set up and he messed up his headers one time on a hill pulling out of somewhere. I have had good luck with midlength myself. 22 dyno proven hp out of my headers. |

If you can't do LT's or at least midlengths, I wouldn't even bother... |
Longtubes are the way to go I think  |
Long tubes! |
Longtubes or nothing. Shorties aren't worth the time and money. |
well my car is lowered so if i did get longtubes i would prbably screw them up somehow, espically where i live. who makes good midlenghts?? |
Originally Posted by hpponline.net well my car is lowered so if i did get longtubes i would prbably screw them up somehow, espically where i live. who makes good midlenghts?? similar and both have pretty good reputations. But the clearance problems are probably no different, the fat Y-pipe that goes with any mid- or long tube header is going to be a ground clearance issue. You might be better off with long tubes that have a reputation for tucking up nice, than a mid-length. Floorboard - 3" is floorboard - 3". |
wow old post, hey did you ever get any headers?? and where is a good pleace to get headers tht tuck the best for the best ground clearance? |
i had mac headers, they are a good set of headers(not great)i dynoed 424.1hp 408tq with them on a head and camed car. i switched to kooks,i like them way better. mac headers will do fine but if you want the most power from the car go with LT's. |
