Help, can't Identify part... Morning, I'm having a hard time identifying a part (Trans Am 2002 V8 5.7L)... I need your help identifying the part, I don't even know what it does or hard itbis to replace. I appreciate your help. This tube I noticed was torn... http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...228-picsay.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...707_185255.jpg Thank you, Ray |
That's the tubing for the PCV valve. Yours has seen better days. You can either spend $100 to get a new tubing assembly, rig up a new one with 3/8" hose for like $20, or swap to a '04+ LS6 valley cover and eliminate the PCV valve altogether (about $100 - $150) in parts. LS6 valley cover is your best bet. It doesn't suck as much oil in the intake and it cleans up the engine bay a bit. Do a search on it. LS1howto has a write up on it too. |

Thank you for your prompt reply Holy Driver... :-) I will definitely look into getting the ls6 intake in the near future. So, having the tube like that won't cause any harm to my engine? What is the purpose of that tube? |
Just to be clear, an LS6 INTAKE won't solve your problem, you need an LS6 VALLEY COVER (flat piece underneath the intake), but if you're already in there might as well swap to an LS6 intake too. PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation. |
Thanks for clearing that up FIVEPOINT7. |
That tube is essentially a vacuum tube. It vents the crankcase pressure from 2 locations... the back of the driver's side valve cover and middle/back of the passenger side valve cover. The fat part right after that break in the hose holds the PCV valve. YOU NEED TO FIX IT. Looks like vacuum leak. Can cause a rough idle among other unwanted things. Some guy on LS1.com made a good fix for it that is relatively inexpensive.... http://www.ls1.com/forums/f6/pcv-val...ication-80151/ |
