Alternator Whine on LS1's?
 

My alternator is whining, its annoying as hell, at night sounds like I have a damn turbo on the car without a blow off - took it to the dealer n they're trying to tell me its normal, all LS1 alternators whine, some more than others, they cant replace it under my warranty unless its not charging cuz theres nothing wrong with the one on there. Does ANYONE elses alternator whine? I know alotta people with LS1's that say theirs dont whine - im gettin pretty pissed but I dont wanna pay the $50 deductable on my extended warranty by taking it to another dealer when the dealer i bought it at has $0 deductable for another 2.5 months and 1500 miles. I took it in yesterday n they told me "your battery terminals were dirty" so today I take it back n they were pretty annoyed that I took it back after they told me nothing was wrong.

Keep complaning to dealers, somebody is bound to replace it, hopefully :)

yeah my plan is to go to holler and courtesy chevrolet n have them diagnose n quote me in writing n then take it back to McNamara Pontiac n ask em why other dealers are telling me its a problem n they're not :) It didnt seem to whine as bad tonite tho, maybe they did the WD40 quick fix to keep me from complaining. Wouldn't be surprised. Kinda wish it'd just die on me n I could tow it to them n yell at em with a TOLD U SO! :)

My alternator on my LS1 doesn't whine, but the one in my truck (non-ls1)whines pretty bad. I went and replaced it with a new one, and that one whines just as loud! I took it to the parts store, and they said it was normal!

It is aggravating as as hell! Since it is a lifetime warrenty alternator, I will probably return it here pretty soon for another! If it was normal, why did my original not do it till the bearings went bad? These excuses are as aggravating as the whine in the truck!

My alternator did the same thing. I took it to the dealer and they said the bearings were bad. 2 days later I got my car back with a new alternator and no noise. Try going to a different dealer.
