Crate LS6 full bolt-on's, A4 = 400 rwhp ??

What would it take for a crate LS6 long block with full bolt-on's thru an A4 to see 400 rwhp?? I am wondering if I were to send the heads out to either AI or TEA would do it? I could simply change the cam, but it would then no longer be an LS6 engine. Can ot be done thru an A4??

stock ls6 is rated for 405...obviously it isnt all getting to the wheels, but you shouldnt need to do internal work like heads/cam to get it there, probably headers/free flowing exhaust and a good intake/TB combo should put it there.

Depends on the dyno, but cam only should put you there

Just plan on building the whole car. You will want to do it all eventually anyway. Just a cam could get you there speaking just 400whp. Any company is capable of doing a nice set of heads. I prefer TEA myself.

I already know that a cam would put me above 400 rwhp easily, but I am interested in NOT breaking into the engine. Does anyone think AI's 226cc head porting service would give me the 20-30 extra rwhp to break the number being that I am an A4 car? Also, ths suspension consists of the following:
Bmr springs / Bilstein shocks
Bmr front / rear sway bars
Bmr lower control arms
Bmr pan hard bar
Umi torque arm
Slp sub frame connectors

Thanks...

YOULL NEED AT LEAST A CAM IN ADDITION to boltons TO GET 400rwhp through an auto.

if youre adding a stall and gears it might be even necessary to get heads or head work or a more aggressive cam.

What engine would it become if it has an aftermarket cam? Would it stay an LS6 with aftermarket or ported stock heads?

1) Your suspension mods will do nothing for your HP goal.

2) To me swapping heads would be "breaking into the engine."

What is your goal, a sleeper, DD, good street manners? Here is a thread with some head only numbers, https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...only-dyno.html

Also, you can get a cam that would still sound stock yet make more power.

No longer an LS6 engine with a cam change? Oh jesus Christ. Who cares what it has for a cam in it, and who really cares that its an LS6? Its an LS6 block and heads, thats what makes it an LS6. If I put an LS6 cam in my LS1, its still an LS1. Swapping the cam is easier than the heads and will probably gain more than just the heads. Ive never heard of anyone swapping or porting the stock heads and leaving the stock cam. That pretty much defeats the purpose.

hiossilver got nearly 420rwhp on a bolt on ls6 through an m6. it's do able just takes the right parts.

I agree with this ^^^

Agreed also. I have the TSP 233/239 cam with full bolt-ons minus heads (I have stock 241's) and in the Florida summer heat my car put down 374hp through a 3600 stall after the tune. If your putting a stall in the car (which I would HIGHLY recommend) then a good cam and bolt-ons will make the car faster than you think.

there are a few insane dynos that will give you inflated #'s but a normal dyno you would need a decent cam for 400 rwhp. also keep in mind M6 dyno 15 rwhp higher than A4.

This is true but through an auto 400 would even be a stretch and dont forget hio has a lot of things that help out dyno numbers that arent available for autos. For example his 18lb clutch assembly def frees up power but a stall converter will not do the same on an auto.

Other than that I think about 385 ish maybe 395 with a fast is the limit for a bolt on ls6 through an auto on a good day. Bolt on z06s will go over 400 but an auto is another story. If the op wants 400 he should go for a mild cam. Even one that can barely be heard will take him over his goal

You mentioned in another thread that you were curious what the FAST 92mm intake would do on a stock internal LS6. I FINALLY put my FAST 92mm on along with a Nick Williams 92mm TB and went to Vengeance today to get a new tune. I hit my goal and put down 400.1 RWHP and 389.3 RWTQ.

Just like you, I didn't want to open up my crate LS6 longblock. I wanted to try to get to 400 RWHP with all the bolt-ons. I got there, but I am an M6. However, When I dynoed today, I was on my new HEAVY 18" C6 replica rims and I just put a a new Monster Stage II clutch in and I did NOT opt for the lighter flywheel and I now know the flywheel with the Stage II is actually heavier than the stock flywheel. Oh, and it was in almost 90 degree heat today too.

I was at 385 RHWP before the FAST 92mm. My intake is also NOT ported. You just MIGHT get to 400 RWHP on your A4 if you go with a ported FAST 92.

Oh, and I resurrected this old thread too to see if that'll help you out:
