Recommendations on heads/head work that'll work best for my cammed ls1.
 

Starting to save up for some heads/head work for my '02 z28. Car is a cammed/bolt-on weekend warrior on a stock 10 bolt with 4.10 gears, that'll see very little track time. Just want something that'll shut anyone up that pulls next to me, without compromising reliability. Cheap and reliable are the key words! Anyone have any suggestions? Cam specs are 240/244 .605/.596 112 LSA

Don't have a set amount honestly. Maybe $1500 or so for everything. Parts and labor.

Not really any options for $1500 if your including labor....

For $1500 You could get some PRC 5.3 or LS6 heads. Either one are a great bang for the buck

For 1500 with labor u will have to find a used set and find some one to do the labor cheap. Most cnc heads run 1500 or more by itself. But a stock casting with cnc work is about your only budget option.

I'm willing to spend a little more if need be. Just want the best bang for the buck without going overboard. I still have some time to save up and make the final decision however.

Bang for the buck is oem casting that are cnc'd. Like from Texas Speed. Then u can look at the prc heads also.

Advanced inductions has full CNC for 243 casting. You send a core.
If you can assemble the heads yourself it's like $1000 for them "bare"
Like $300 more for .660 lift springs assembled
Plus you can choose combustion chamber size to get the compression ratio you want.
So $1300 plus shipping I think that falls into budget.

For some reason I am thinking the OP was referring to the installation of the heads as well when he said "labor".

I like the texas speed PRC heads, plus they mill them for free.

Look around and you will find some good deals from members changing directions with their projects. I just purchased a fresh set of 61cc TEA Stage 1 LS6 243's assembled with PAC dual springs and Ti retainers for "close" to your budget.

A fully assembled set of AI 243's is more then 1300.00. Look closely at the website.

1000.00 for the labor and CNC work + 125.00 for new guides, +525.00 for springs, retainers, locks, locators, seals, +50.00 for shipping.

= 1700.00

If you choose to buy the springs, retainers, locks, locators, and seals separate and install them yourself, you would actually have 1875.00 into the heads being AI provides a 175.00 discount for those parts if purchased and installed by them.

Also this price is based on already having a set of 243's. If you still need to purchase a stock set to have worked then figure another 450-500.00 for LS2 and up to 6-700.00 for a set of LS6 with lightweight sodium filled valves.

So basically your looking at 2200-2400.00 start to finsh for a complete assembled set of cnc AI 243's.

A good set of CNC 243's can yield any where from +35-50whp depending on the compression increase.

I just got back my LS6 heads with the 232cc CNC porting and I used the BTR spring kit. My guides were in great shape so my OTD price was 1295+55 shipping for the heads. A great deal and Phil is wonderful to work with.
