Default Exhaust ? Catalytic Converter or No

As it says ? Do I need to run the Catalyic converter on not?

A little info, the engine is 2002 LQ9 DBW w/ Hooker cast iron manifolds. The vehicle is 1991 Toyata LandCruiser. The exhaust configuration would be a Y pipe to single pipe.

I no longer need to pass visual or smog test, as it's too old!

What's the recommended sizes?

I was thinking 2.5 Y to 3 back?

I run cats, because they serve as a resonator to prevent that raspy exhaust sound a straight Y pipe can cause

I did a little search on this before, all I really came up with was a couple items...
Sound ?
Fuel smell ?
02 sensors might not heat up properly ?
