Install time on Jet-Hot LT's and O/R y-pipe?

How long would it take of begginer-average mechanical skills to install Jet-Hot LT's and O/R y-pipe on a 99 T/A LS1.

Thanks in advance

That depends. Do you have anyone to help you? Will you be on jack stands? My Jet-Hot install (no Y-pipe, just remove old exhaust and go open header) took me a long time. I did almost all of it by myself on jack stands in my garage. I think it will take an absolute minimum of 5-6 hours for a beginner, and it could easily take as long as 20 hours. Seriously. Little things can take a long time, and you always run into all kinds of little problems. It took me hours just to get my stock Y-pipe/cats off because everything was so rusted. Give yourself two full days, start earlier on the first day and it should be finished sometime on the second day for sure.

FYI: It is well worth the time, effort, and bloody knuckles to do it yourself when most shops charge $250-$400 for a header install. Be sure and knock out a plug change while you have the chance. I vote you take a break when you get the headers in, before the Y-pipe, and start it up open header  Just don't do any work right after that, the outer header surface heats up to like 200*F in literally five seconds or less i swear i found out the hard way :emb:

It will be me and my friend. IT will be on jack stands in my garage.

It shouldn't be too bad. If your car has not seen salty roads (just saw you are in HI) it shouldn't be too bad. Mine had spent six winters in the chicagoland/northwest indiana area :barf: . Just take your time, have fun, and be carefull. It really is not all that hard. Just remove old exhaust, move stuff out of way for headers, slide headers in, put stuff back. It sounds so simple that way, doesn't it? :jest:

I ran in to alot of problems... it is hard on the hands and can get very upsetting. After it was done it was all worth it and yes i would say start it up with open headers sounds amazing. I wouldn't do it again if i had to but if he is a good friend take your time get a 6 pack prolly should make it a case and just take your time.

If I would have worked continuously instead of taking breaks...I would say 3 hours for the headers only. Granted, I have all the tools for the job (which really arent that many...no specialty tools needed).

It took longer to get the car up on 4 jackstands than it did to get the headers in once the old stuff was off.

Be sure to disconnect your battery. You dont want sparks flying and PCMs burning when you ground the hot wire on your starter, LOL....

It's easy.

Took 10 hours total including a lunch break. First time doing LT's. :) I thought the hardest part was getting the old stuff out.
