kooks driver side header won't go in. I tried to install the driver side kooks lt header but it will not go back in. I jacked the car up really high and removed the oil filter and jacked the tranny (6 speed) and no matter how I try it will not go up. I have tried for hours and no luck. It looks like you have to take out the engine mount out.Do I have to take the bolt out and jack up the motor or do I take the engine mount out with the pedestal out too. I am stumped and don't know what to do. I took it out from the bottom.I need to get this car back together . |
What size are they? How high up do you have the car? Also I'm sure you removed the steering shaft, right? |
Do your motor mounts look worn? I had to give the cradle a little shave to get clearance on that side. Where is it hanging up? |
You could try the BFH method. Just joking, those headers cost too much. Remove the engine mount and try again, not a big deal. |
I had the same issue, but I got them in. I had to grind about 4-5 mm from my K member, and then the big (useless) boss on the engine block I cut about 7-9 mm or more from that too. |

No it is not removed. the engine mount is in the way.I will try to rempve the steering coupler but I don't think that will help. |
How high is your front lifted. I had to get mine way up in the air to get enough angle to get the thing in. And I did pull that steering shaft as well. |
I had the same ordeal this weekend getting my kooks in. Hung up on the firewall and the motor mount. Pulled the steering knuckle apart and it slid right in. |
Remove the shaft. Remove last two spark plugs and go straight up with the header and in. |

I pulled the steering shaft coupler tonight. I will jack it up to the moon tomorrow and try it again. I am just really frustrated with this car. The people I payed to mod it screwed up the build. Cam and lifters were bad, wrong length pushrods. Cylinder heads were goofy and on and on. Everything they touched they messed up .So I had to pull a lot more stuff apart than I thought. |

The steering shaft was removed last night. I still cannot get this header in no matter how I try to turn it. Looks like I have to take out the engine mount. I removed the sensor in front of the engine mount. That thing did not want to come out.I think that is some kind of coolant sensor. Any way, my next question is do I take out the four bolts holding that metal tower under the engine mount out and take the single bolt out of the engine mount. support the motor with a jack? I am worried that I will not get the motor mount back in. I am getting really sick of this thing. |
It will be difficult getting that bolt in. What lots of guys do is change to poly mounts while the headers are out. If you're keeping stock mounts it won't be as bad. |
So do I pull that single bolt on the engine mount and jack the motor up or pull that that metal support out? The header is hitting the metal support under the engine mount. |
I can't believe it, I got it in there. I looked at it and attempted to put it in at a different angle a little forward of where the lower control arm rear mount is. I put it straight up and turned it and it went up there. It went in a lot different than I pulled it out. I was about to give up and I though I would try it again. Thanks for all your guys iput and patience with me on this install.I could not have done it without you. |
