Could this get me in the 12's?

2000 SS A4 ran 13.6 ET with Lid and MagnaFlo muffler alone. I've been told that the car also has a Detroit Locker by previous owner. Car was stock otherwise. Are my expectations realistic?

Recent upgrades include:
LS6 intake (EGR deleted)
ported throttle body

Next upgrades:
SE or TSP 1 7/8" LT's
Poly mounts
Blackheart Duals (or SE Y-pipe with true 3" back to Magnaflo)
Dynotune or Frost tune
Trans cooler

My dilemma:
Blackheart True Duals or SE Y-pipe with custom 3" back to MagnaFlo. If I went with the Y-pipe, I could also get a SSRA for less money than the duals.

I already know that a good TC alone would get me low 13's. But I've decided to do intake headers and exhaust first.

A good torque converter with trans cooler and drag radials will net you 12s easily.

What was your trap speed and 60ft time ?

What tires ?

2.05 60ft, 101.78 mph, 28psi in street tires. They had just prepend the track and I hooked up perfectly.

Has the car been tuned up ? Plugs, wires ?

what gas were you running?

Did you put the transmission in D and let it shift or did you manually shift it ?

101 mph is slow unless I'm missing something

That's what I trapped in my bone stock 98 T/A 2.73 car in 2000 da

I was actually pleased with the 13.6 ET for a stock car. This is my first muscle car(Im 44yo). Car is high mileage car(192K) but previous owners took exceptional care of the car and both 40+yo. 93 octane. Previous owner replaced plugs/wires 25K ago. Might need to look at plugs when I do headers. Car also has new 4L60e at 170K.

I put the car in D, had foot on brake with RPM's at about 2K before launch.

Density Altitude...he is in Alabama. Probably pretty hot and humid this time of year. Take the car to Atco in mine shaft air and watch it trap 106.

Central Alabama. High humidity. DA for last week ranged from 1700-3100ft. I ran the car a few weeks ago and not sure what it was at that time. There sure is a lot to all this stuff.

i agree on getting a stall with tires first.

rybern Jun 6, 2016 03:09 PM

I really need to at least ride in a car with a stall, don't I? LOL I get the concept but it seems to me that the stall only helps you off the line. Sure, I want to run in the 12's, but that's for for bragging rights. ;) I'm not a drag racer and don't plan to run at the strip every weekend. This car is a toy and a cruiser.

ULTIMATEORANGESS Jun 6, 2016 03:15 PM

stall helps in other RPMs besides launching depending on what kind you choose.

its well worth it with an a4 even for a DD.

A converter also helps your shift extensions, meaning instead of dropping to like 3400 rpm's or whatever it is with stock converter, your rpm's will only drop till like 4500 rpm's depending on what converter you go with. So essentially that slow climb in rpms you experience after the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift that takes forever to get into your power band will be eliminated.

I have a yank ss3600, Lt's, 3.73's and drag radials.
My track times: 12.2@111 mph. 60' 1.71

^^^^bingo!!!!

senicalj4579 Jun 6, 2016 04:17 PM

My car was able to run a best of 13.197@106.93mph and 2.09 60' with stock stall, 3.23, full weight, lid, ssra, full exhaust, tune on street tires in 2500 da.

You either need mineshaft air or a stall. Mineshaft air da got me 12.6 with the same car as above. Just the addition of a ss3600 and mt drs on car listed above netted me 11.9.

Do a ss3600. Great converter.

transamtom Jun 6, 2016 05:18 PM

A good name brand 9" 3600 stall lock up torque converter like Circle D Yank or FTI will get the most gain per buck for your car.

It will also give you good driveability with a proper tune

Don't forget the drag radials your going to need them.

rybern Jun 6, 2016 05:39 PM

I'm beginning to see the light. I appreciate the info. I'm still getting my freakin' headers though. LOL.

I'll begin researching about a stall converter.

Yea 13.6 @ 192k is impressive! I wasn't knocking the time the mph just looked low to me but as others have mentioned bad air will cause that.

Yea I would go ahead and change the plugs and wires since your doing headers anyway

What headers you looking into ?

rybern Jun 6, 2016 08:16 PM

Speed Eng or TSP 1 7/8 LT's.

farmington Jun 7, 2016 12:05 PM

buy the best converter you can afford. and after you've had the converter in for a while you won't even notice it anymore till you pound the gas pedal. My converter is locked and in overdrive above 42mph so gas mileage is still good.

madmike9396 Jun 7, 2016 05:11 PM

My 4k FTI stall locks up around 45mph. It would get good gas milage if I could keep my foot out of it
