Default How can I tell what thermostat I have?

Wanting to dial in my fan settings a bit until I do my cooling system upgrade. No clue what thermostat I have but the car will run between 194 and 205 while driving. Mostly sticks around 194-198 at idle. I assume that's probably a stock thermostat?

You're reading that from the gauge on your dash?

Radiators are under optimum size on 98-02 F-bodies. I've had my cars show 200+ scanner temps with a 160 t-stat on 90 degree + days with A/C on at 70 mph. The only real way to know what the t-stat is is to pull it and look down the center hole. The temp will be stamped in degrees C.

If it sits about 195 at highway cruise then it's either
a stock ("180"ish) or a waste-of-money aftermarket
"180".

There is no value in changing it out. Get the cooling
airflow (clean, fans, no obstructions) and fin depth
(LT1 core) right and fuggedaboudit.

get the LT1 radiator (1/4 inch thicker core) and replace the stat with an OEM version.

This is the way to know exactly what thermo you have in your car

I figured that's the only real way. I have s new lt1 sized radiator and a new pump hoses everything along with a 160 thermostat from Lingenfelter waiting to go in this winter.

I have the stock radiator and have no problem keeping the engine in the 170-180 range.

I think my cooling system hasn't ever been flushed or taken care of plus there's a coolant leak someplace some I'm just going to replace it all this winter when the turbo kit goes on.
