Default LS3 376/480 Crate pilot bearing

I am usually just a reader of this forum and appreciate all the knowledge people provide.

Having a heck of a time getting the pilot bearing (smaller) flush.

Engine is a LS376 crate which will be matched to a T56. For the life of me i cant get the bearing flush. Was going in well/straight then stopped. I tried a little more force, but does not seem like it is going anywhere. Bearing is straight in its current location.

Bearing is sticking out just over tenth of an inch (~0.12) Before i assembled the trains to see how it all goes together, i figured i would ask.

Could the bearing not being flush be normal/ok? Maybe due to it being a crate engine? I assume the input shaft of the t56 will allow for some of it but not sure how much if any.

thanks in advance.

The bearing must be flush and it's GM part # 14061685. You must have the wrong bearing and install it with the chamfered side facing the transmission. You can freeze the bearing and it will be easier to install, also be sure the bore is clean. In addition, be sure that you didn't hit/ loosen the oil gallery plug in the crankshaft; if so, you will need a new one.

Bore was clean and it was installed with the right side out. I let the bearing sit in the freezer overnight. Maybe i should try a few days!

I am going to pull it and install a new one. I can feel the space between the bearing and the oil plug so i think i am OK there.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Thanks for the replies. Got a new pilot bearing and it went in as expected, flush and smooth.
