Default Valvoline VR1 racing oil??

Does anyone use this oil? Is it a good replacement for Royal Purple?

I run it since that's what my builder recommends. No complaints

I use it in most of my builds, unless I need to go to synthetic, due to temps. Then it’s Gibbs.

I have a friend who owns a blown Hemi powered funny car. VR1 is the oil he used when he raced that car.

Yes, I use it in anything that I am going to lean on hard...I've got a 5.3l with north of 400,000 miles on the short block in my wagon.( just to see how long it's gonna hold up.) I beat on it like it wrote me a bad check...VR1 has kept it alive for 3 years now...

...and the bearings, pistons, rings, and often the rods. Even the sleeves on a lot of runs.

I may have misspoke on this. Perhaps it’s not a nitro car? Alcohol cars last a tad longer, as the nitro dilutes the oil into a syrup looking mud.

It is an alcohol funny car. Interesting story, he lost his main sponsor so he was driving for a guy who was a GM engineer by day and campaigned a funny car. Between runs, they'd drain the oil and put it in a pot on the stove and boil the alcohol out of the oil and then dump it back in for the next run.

Yup but I use the full synthetic. I mix the 30 and 50 weight to get a 40 weight or so since 5w30 and 20w50 are the only full synthetic offerings. It's either VR1 or Redline for me.

I mix amsoil high zinc 10w 30 with their signature series 5w30 really good stuff. When it comes to oil you dont want to cheap out especially on a boosted motor.

I tried the Valvoline oil in my motorcycle. The UOA showed that it did not do as well as Royal Purple. So I'm back to RP in pretty much everything.

AFAIK, there are only 5 synthetic oils on the market: RP, Redline. Schaffer, Amsoil, and Miller. The other "synthetic" oils are highly refined dino oils, and some actually have PAO mixed. But when push comes to shove, they don't perform as well.
