macs VS LT's I know that this question is probly asked alot, but I want to know which is better for my mods. I currently have a 216/220 CC , TCI 3400 stall , borla and other small mods like Lid and pulley...ect Would the mac's benifit me or would the LT"s ? |

Get the LT's if you can afford them. They generally offer slightly better gains than MAC's in the low end, but the two are nearly identical in the top end. |
I really not worried down low my stall gets me in the higher rpms faster , but from what i have been reading the year of my car . 2002 , wont see a big improvement if i get macs . |
ive had both, LT>macs |
heh which is greater ? |
Why do it half-way? Get the LT's... |

Had Mac mids went to LTs having too many fitment issues and others I dont even have a clue about (need HP Tuners) My Macs fit like a glove so I'm putting them back on as soon as I get them coated. :) |

If you are going for every last bit of power you can get, go for the longtubes. However, the Mac's with a Borla is a pretty well balanced exhaust combo for a stock displacement LS1. Most longtubes use a 3" y-pipe, which seems pointless to me on a mild 346. I spoke with Nick Fillipides at Kooks about switching from my set-up (Mac's/Borla) to a set of Kook's headers and a 3" X system. He told me that he'd done the same swap on other H/C cars, and said he'd expect 11rwhp from the change; he claimed that the Mac's/Borla combo was actually pretty efficient on a street oriented stock cube LS1. I'll keep my exhaust until I go with a larger motor. Unless you're planning on heads or more cubes soon, the Mac's wouldn't be a bad choice, but make sure you throw in a Flowmaster y-collector (the only thing Flowmaster makes that would EVER go on one of my vehicles). I run my Borla capped off (too loud otherwise--cops really notice), have absolutely zero rasp, and get nothing but compliments on how the car sounds. Either way you go, you're going to make more power, which is never a bad thing. :drive: |

I'm also looking into MAC headers. For $700 (with catted Y-pipe) it sound very appealing. I'd have to spend $1200 for catted LTs, so tell me: Is extra 10rwhp worth spending extra $500 ???? - I don't think so. We're talking $50 per 1 rwhp.....For $500 I'd invest into dry nitrous :-) Also, I have seen people claiming that MAC cats suck, so yesterday I e-mailed Mac to provide me with their flow numbers. If they are bad as people claim they are, then I just might get ORY, and weld in some carsound cats for $100 off ebay. I'll let you know on those flow numbers, if they reply back... Also, Macs are great if you plan on lowering your car a bit (sprngs/shocks) - very little ground clearence issues.... |
