Anyone ever hear 8 into 1 headers in person?
Just recently watched a few videos with headers configured with an 8 into 1 merge collector, which sounds like it gives more of a v-12 sort of pitch & higher revving sound to it.
I know it likely wouldn't gain any power over other good headers & would be a total bitch to fab up as well as find room for, so it would really have to add a unique sound to be worth it..One place has 8 into 1 stainless merge collectors for under $400. Also wonder if pipe placement into collector from each cylinder is important.

I have a hunch that having an equal length from all 8 exhaust ports to the final merge (or merges, with true dual) is probably much more important than having 8-into-1 or 180-paired collectors. And I have a hunch that getting all 8 runners equal would require less work than doing 8-1 or 180.
0) Start with a pair of regular 4-into-1 collectors
1) Make the primaries for the front cylinders as short as possible
2) Find room for some extra pipe bends to make the runners for all of the other cylinders exactly the same length as the runners for the front cylinders.
3) Re-route the front cylinders because now some of those bends are in the way.
4) Go back to step 2.
Repeat until all 8 are the same length.
Record the results and upload to youtube.
Assuming, of course, that you trust a hunch from an random stranger on the internet enough of wager a ton of labor on it.
There will still be an issue with pairs of cylinders in each bank that fire back-to-back, and that might affect the sound somewhat, but I still expect that having equally spaced exhaust pulses would get pretty close to the sound you're looking for.

Thats nice and impressive looking, but you can accomplish almost the same thing with a Y pipe, but not an H. The impulses passing through the Y help each bank scavenge from the opposite bank. The same way individual pipes scavenge each other in the collector. But, thats alot of expense and effort to pick a few extra ponies.

I actually have a set of tri-y headers tacked together in mock up awaiting final fit before tig welding up. Made from used damaged Kooks Nascar LS series headers & had some technical help on them. So powerwise nothing would be worth the trouble of making vs finishing them. They probably would improve my current sound of mid length headers.
As the title states, I 'd like to know if someone has heard them in person & can verify that the sound is unique enough to consider the trouble of trying to fit & make such a monstrocity. Most of the engines in the video's I've found such as Tanner Faust's 700 hp ls7 have so much cam & airflow that they'd have to sound much more badass than average to begin with.
Right now this is just a future thought for consideration that would take a lot of preplanning & reworking other items to make room for. This would all be for sound.
Fitting into my now 2016 camaro nosed el camino would have to go up & forwards to work. Other reason to do this could be unique looks. A bunch of pipes snaking around in plain view would look cool. Could also make room for a future single turbo install.

I saw Tanner Foust's drift taxi at Gridlife Midwest at Gingerman raceway last June, it sounds amazing and very different.

Just doing occasional research on this for a while, not a whole lot of info out at this time, but looks like some more serious builds are doing this.
Hopefully one day it won't be just a pipe dream.

I'm in the middle of doing a widebody on a strangely modified , early done LS install el camino right now, so I gave up practicality long time ago. Already relocated radiators once, & have extra bracing between frame , crossmember, core support & 2016 camaro nose, so I have some room & strength to modify again.
If I do this someday in later future rather than finish my tri-y setup, it would mainly be for sound, partly for visual & unique looks. Mainly hunting technical info. Though some build pics, such as pantera exhaust don't look to possibly be set up sequential, I think the pipes need to be set up in rotation as firing order, 1-8 -7-2-6-5-4-3 for best scavenging for both power & sound. There is always a lot of argument on the worth of equal length headers and actual length of pipe , particularly for a street engine, so losing 5 or 10 potential hp with cleaner looking easier to run pipes will make the project easier to make a reality, so what right?. Next research step may be to call racemufflers, which has mild steel 8 into 1 merges for $309.95. Pretty fair for such a monster.
Also for cost & effort reasons, Pretty sure I'll just do 18 ga mild steel & get coated. I have some scraps already & could even use the old fashioned torch I first learned on instead of tig and backpurging needed for stainless to finish if I chose to.
Here is a link to the tri-y headers that I started on & never finished for several reasons, hopefully the pics show up. Nevermind the ugly tack welds, there were tall on purpose in case I needed to gut apart & not loose even 1/16" of length.

....He definitely has more time in this car than anyone else on here.
I feel this 8-1 idea is way more hassle than its worth and im not sure where you would have room to run them unless you were putting them in a different vehicle.
But, if you pull it off good on you. Id only consider something like this if i was ls swapping a super car that had a rear mounted engine. Even then.....idk.
I couldn't justify it in any way, looks, performance, uniqueness, etc.
