Intake size, does it matter (even though they say size does't matter, lol.)
I have a stock LQ9 6.0 from an 04 escalade with throttle by wire. I'm swapping it into my 67 camaro. I'm keeping it basically stock for now, I just want to get the car on the road. It's been a project too long. However, the truck intake is too big to fit under the stock hood. So I'm going to replace the intake, but want something that I can use now, and also use when i build the engine up. I'm not going to go crazy when i build it, mostly cam, maybe heads, stuff like that.
Anyhow, My question is, the sheetmetal intakes that they sell on ebay and other places like that, come complete with fuel rails and throttle body. (not too concerned with switching to drive by cable). But they have a 102mm throttle body. I will need to get the PCM done regardless, but is the 102mm throttle body going to be too big with the stock cam and head setup? Also, what size injectors should I go with? (I don't think they come with the intake). I do know that i need to change the injector connectors from the truck style to car style since i have the truck wiring harness. I'm also going to put headers on it for the initial startup too.
Does anyone have experience with these intakes? Are they any good? Is there anything else that I should look for when swapping the intake? I've heard some interference issues between a car and truck waterpump with the throttle body, and maybe relocating the alternator with another bracket.
Looking to buy some stuff soon and get this project going. Any comments or advise is appreciated.
(I'd go with a stock LS1,LS2, or LS6, but the price of a used one with rails, TB, and injectors is almost as much as these, and you never know what you are getting with used)

As mentioned above I'd skip the sheet metal intakes for the stock LQ9. Too bad the truck intake doesn't fit. How much clearance do you have to work with? The TBSS truck intake is outstanding, cheap but probably too tall.
I think a Fast 90/92 would make a nice match both now and later. There's a new in box Fast 90 listed in the classified /market place section for like ~$650.
You can get a Fast 102, probably be $850 or so and harder to tune for good drive ability. However, Frost has a good reputation of sorting out the drive ability issues. Even with a mail order tune.
Otherwise, the good old LS6 intake is decent and can be had for $400 give or take $50. You can sell it later if you want to upgrade.

I love my Dorman LS2 90mm (its actually 92 mm measured I believe. It fits almost like stock on my LS1 and still clears the cowl. I just had to heat and bend the coolant cross over a little bit. Other than that I had no fitment issues. It even came with the button head bolts for the valley cover. I did do some porting of the intake runners to clean up the transition where the upper and bottom meet. If I am remembering correctly its basically a FAST bottom plastic welded to a DORMAN LS6 so you can use a 92mm throttle body.

Just to clarify, speaking of LS2 intake manifolds, the stock one is a turkey, BUT the Dorman LS2 intake is very good, comparable to the LS6, stock or Dorman.

Just what i was going to suggest. If you have an 78-80mm tb and on budget.. The ls6 is still a great intake with stock to mild cams. Lengerfelter builds when ls came out included ls6 intakes or their on aluminum units which where still based off ls6 if i remember correctly. Doubtful of any diff in gains vs it being able to be ported

I think as long as your keeping stock heads I would go with the ls6 intake, ls1 Tb, 85mm truck maf and maybe 42lb injectors for when you get a decent cam in there. Obviously you can't go wrong with a fast but for a stock motor I think the ls6 is more than enough. You can also sell it later on if you swap the heads and buy a fast 102 combo
