Something like this, and if you could measure the size of the opening that would be very helpful!

Awesome thank you. So it looks like the Camaro SS intake base is the same or maybe very slightly larger. But not as large as the WS.6 intake. So it may not fit in an SS hood.

Ok got it. Thanks for the clarification. So WS6 base most likely won't work with an SS hood.

KissmyZ28, after 20+ years of 4th Gen's folks sometimes forget what it's like being picking mods for the LS1 forth first time That WS6 air box on my 99TA since like 1999 is also a reminder that sometimes parts that looking promising - aren't. Luckily my 02 Z28 doesn't have to endure the same level of testing.

Check this out for on WS6 Store's website. contact WS6 Store for more details they are very helpful. The bigger 98mm 104mm lids are better for hp than the old 78mm stuff from SLP, LS1 Motorsports, Whisper, MTI etc. The smaller lower air box works great with any of them. I plan to run a 104 set up on my 02 Z28 with SLP SS hood with stock short air box.

Fast Toys 98mm Lid , set up and fitment details

Green Filter Part #2021 seems to out flow the K&N and others and is a good choice for lid set ups in my experience.

The SSRA, Hiossilver set up and some others are better for hp than these lid set ups the FT lid keeps a nice stock look and fits well.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! I will definitely check it out! I just emailed Hawks about the sunoco hood to see if it will clear the WS6 base.

They make the Sunoco hood in various sizes now as well, my stock 'normal' VFN Sunoco' on my 95 LT1 had a 3" rise but I believe you can get them higher now.

Yeah I saw that from Hawks, but the taller one looks a little too tall for my taste. If the normal Sunoco hood won't fit I might see if the ultra Z hood will. I've wanted another hood anyways so it's not that big of a deal. This just gives me more incentive to get one.

Ok lol. We're talking about changing the whole base man. But anyway, I used to have the blackwing filter in mine that comes with SLP Flowpack and it was in it when I sold it(I sold this car then bought it back 6 years later). But some dingus apparently got rid of that filter and put a K&N filter in it. Which is stupid but I'll just have to get another one.

Definitely agree K&N sucks.

I like the Green Filter way better. With checking out in my humble opinion.

Based on design I think it will out flow the K&N with ease and edge out the AEM as well.

I think Green is better made, superior design, less prone to leak, easier to tweak for better fitment and filters better with less restriction. The link below helps explain in detail.

Green Filter compared to K&N

Please see article for details.

Short version

Author of article was kicked off of K&N's dyno when swapping in a paper AC Delco filter and the paper filter showed a gain over the K&N filter on his 01 Camaro.

K&N is 6-8 layers of cotton gauze like a bandage. Gauze doesn't take much effort to get a hole worked into it. K&N rubber seal leaks onto the filter element blocking airflow. K&N filters 10-20 micron particles successfully.

Green is 2 layers of woven cotton, like a shirt and more durable. Also seems to oil more consistently. Green says they can trap particles as small as 5 microns. The particles that cause most engine wear are around 10 to 20 microns.

BTW - i've used K&N & AEM before. I kept find more dust in the T/A's airbox & lid with the K&N. Tried AEM and it was better less dust than K&N. Went back to paper filter when switched to Green.

Good stuff BlackBird! You laid it out in a good Cliffs Notes version. K&N does not look good. A LOT of marketing hype....
(I'll still read the article..)

My K&N didn't seal well to the LS1 motorsports lid I had at the time. The AEM fits perfect with my Fast Toys 98 lid.
