Way to go Legally to 01-02 EGRless system?
have a 1999 SS with a catted Y and want to keep it emissions fiendly. Is there a way to switch to the 01-02 system with out the EGr and stay legal. It will set codes if I remove the EGR, right/

You must use Edit or HPTuners and change EGR=False. The engine light will go off. If anyone questions why you don't have an egr, you tell them you replaced the intake with a new year's version that doesn't include EGR (which is legal).

thanks for the tips. i do not mind leaving the air as my headers have the air fittings anyway. I can just remove the EGR and still be legal?
Thanks

If I keep the Air, but take off the EGr would I pass visual? It would look like a 01-02 setup. How wuld they know the difference? Can't you upgrade to a newer system?

The reason they don't have EGR is not because of the intake manifold. The reason they could get away with no EGR is due to the use of the truck cam which allowed more exhaust gas to stay in the engine without EGR. You need to keep all that stuff. But...if you did replace your engine with a newer one without EGR that would be completely legal...hmmm
Can anybody chime in on that? If you replace your engine with a newer engine that is legal...so what if it involves less smog stuff?

90% of the time they wont even know as long as you have the egr codes deleted with edit, obdII wont know any better and as for the sticker? what sticker? must have fell off or washed off?
no air, no egr , no rear o2's, what the scanner doesnt see or know wont hurt it

With emmissions test and engine swaps, you can swap in an engine of the same year or newer. You cant put an older engine into a newer vehicle. So when they see a 99 EGR-less LS1, all you do say it was replaced with a 01 or newer engine.
