Default My gauges look like the 4th of July when I floor it

Ok, not really sure if I should have gone somewhere else with this thread, but here's the problem. I swapped trans, cam, springs and pushrods (removed the heads to make it easier). Anyway, I started having problems with the speedometer jumping when I nailed it.....Now, when I stomp it and run it out, my service vehicle, abs light, and brake light all come on until I let off. The abs and brake light go back off, but the service vehicle light stays on until I restart the car. Speedometer usually works smooth until I floor it. The only thing I can think of is a ground is possibly pulling when the engine torques over. I tightened the hell out of the grounds though. Any other suggestions or Ideas?

I'd check everything that has to do with your ABS. make sure all the connections are tight. When you unhook the abs all of those codes will come on.

Sounds like a ground issue. Check the grounds on the instrument panel under the dash.

That ground might also find it's way to the back of a cylinder head. Make sure those grounds are tight as well.

thanks guys I'll check it all tonight. It even turned off my cruise and all of my gauges last night. Everything on the gauge cluster went dead and all my warning lights came on.

Did you check what the SES was reading?

No, I won't be able to pull any codes until saturday. I don't know for sure that it is throwing a SES light or not, cause mine stays on constantly right now from the transmission swap (went back to my A4 computer due to the fact that it still has my tune on it)
It is throwing a "service vehicle" light though, which is under the tachometer (I didn't even know it was there )

check for arcing on your AC canister from the + battery terminal.

many times the battery holddown breaks on the front of the battery, and hard acceleration will rock it in place causing what you describe.

seen it happen 3 times in the past 2 years.

Wouldn't have thought of that one. I'll check that too. Thanks.

The only thing is, that when it happened last night, I was just cruising at about 60 when the cruise control turned off and all my gauges went out. It had been 2-3 minutes since I had accelerated hard at all.

my car did the same thing until I found a spark plug (from the previous owner) wedged in between the starter and the block. It was shorting out on the battery terminal.

Just to follow up......I found the problem this weekend. The ground bolt on the back of the driver's side head was loose. (We put two grounds on this bolt). Tightened it up and everything is good as new.
