Quick Poll. JBA or Kooks LT's

Which to buy, price aside. Both will be Long Tube headers to go on a 99 Y-body, "Corvette".

6-0 so far....looks like you might have a consensus opinion. ;)

ROJO99 Aug 11, 2004 03:01 PM

8-0 for Kooks right now. Did not expect that to happen. More to voting come I hope.

kpowr82 Aug 11, 2004 03:02 PM

This might be a better question to ask on a vette forum since most of us are F-body owners and JBA only makes shorties for our cars (as far as I'm aware anyway).

I voted Kooks. I love mine, fit is great, sound is great, and I gained quite a bit according to the butt-o-meter.

Good luck

Kooks hands down!

ROJO99 Aug 11, 2004 03:08 PM

kpowr82, Thanks for the input on the Kooks. On the other Vette only sites that I frequent there are mostly "bench racers". You know the ones that talk only and not run. I have a guy that says my Vette should be in the mid 12's because his feels that fast... I was like, do you have timeslips? whats your 60'? and others but he has never ran. Go figure...

:funny: yeah, you don't find much of that here.

Kooks is all about real HP! Very nice quality!! Keep in mind I have them on sale with free freight until the end of this mounth!! :)

I voted for Kooks because they make power. In fact, I'd say go for 1-7/8" primaries. It's the same price. Regardless of what everyone else tells you, you'll only see a noticable gain everywhere in the power curve after you get it tuned. Possibly 40rwhp on the Vette. If you want the absolute best torque figures possible, I recommend the LG Longtubes. However, the 1-7/8" Kooks will make more peak power and costs less. They also give you more room to grow in the future.

I didn't know JBA even made LTs for C5s (or F-bodies), I thought they made shorties only.

I'd say Kooks or QTPs only. :drive:

Ferocity02 Aug 11, 2004 10:42 PM

16 to 0.... Need we say more? :D

ROJO99 Aug 12, 2004 07:47 AM

The JBA's have just been released in LT form for the Y-body.

Yeah 16-0 is kind of loud statement... Do I need a re-count ya think?

Country Boy Aug 12, 2004 07:52 AM

18-0 :D

gettinthere Aug 12, 2004 07:52 AM

make it 19-0. I'm very pleased with my Kook's. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still get them.

KB99WS6 Aug 23, 2006 07:09 PM

Kind of an unfair poll, if JBA LT's for fbodies don't even exist. How is someone going to vote for soemthing that doesn't exist? lol.

JBA has always been known for quality though, so I don't see any reason why the new LT's for the Vette shouldn't be just as good as the Kook's. Just they are so new, no one has any results yet....I have been searching for feedback but can't find anyone who has them yet.

Wow an old post came back from the dead....

I ended up going with a LT and Mid section from Melrose International. Quality is the best I have seen to date. Only down side is they are Carbon steel that are coated...

I have heard good things about those headers. Actually, its not really not that much of a downside. They are benefits over the Stainless headers. For one they are coated inside and out, so that should keep them in good shape, and also reduces underhood temps and even increases power a bit too. Also, the mild steel is better with handling contraction & expansion that SS is.

how much did they run you? Thats the one thing, I think i remember them being expensive...

ROJO99 Aug 25, 2006 06:42 AM

They are on the expensive side, but I luked out. A CorvetteForum vendor ordered a set and got lost in shipping. Long story short the headers finally arrived at his door 4 months later. By this time he had a replacement set for the customer so he posted the system for sale as used and asked 1300.00. I offered 1200.00 shipped and now they are on my car.

Contact Melrose directly and tell them you have been referred and ask if you can get the LT system at a rebate. Can not hurt, heck drop my screen name for reference. The peopel there are nice to deal with and their product is some of the best quality you will see.

With only the Melrose LT system an LS6 intake, Vararam and DR's I ran a best ET of 12.20@114, 60' was a 1.80.

Good luck, drop me a message if you go this route.
