Default Car runs better with screen back in MAF ...

I put the screen back in attempt to see if my logged MAF flow would eliminate some dips I was seeing. I didn't get any change in the dips in MAF flow, BUT I think I picked up about 20hp. It's hard to tell for sure, since my runs were done on different stretches of road. Seat-of-the-pants I definitely thought I had better runs. I'd love to redo without the screen under more controlled conditions, but I don't want to bang up the screen.

That's why most of the vets here recommend that you leave the stock maf alone..

I'm looking for a stock screened maf since mine was descreened when I bought the car..

The calibration of the stock MAF is set up to have the screen in it. Only MAF's that are sold without the screen are calibrated to have no screen. I believe you can either have the stock MAF or the ECM programmed specifically for taking the screen out. I am not certain though. I have a screenless 85mm LS6 MAF just waiting to be installed but I believe I must program my computer for that to work right. Anyone else agree with me?

Yeah, I think it's a fuel thing. You've just got SOOO much air comming in w/ out a screen that the comp has a tough time believing it has to use as much fuel as it's sensors are telling it.

Guess I better check my ltrims again... less air could make me run richer net-net & that would push my ltrims more positive as it adjusts......

I was advised to remove my screen. From what you all are saying I'm a little concerned. Of course I just threw my screen away. Is it possible to just buy a new screen?

I've not heard of screens being available separately .... and too many people seen buying complete MAFs to get re-screened for it to be the case ....

I can tell you from experience LEAVE THE SCREEN intact. These mafs are so picky about the way the air flows over them its sickening. Bad enough a lid can throw the clibration wasy outta wack and then adda cam on top of that with a little reversion and you have a tuning nightmare on your hands. dont beleive me check the PCM and Diag forum and you will see this issues we have ben having with the STOCK maf and Aftermarket lid and a cam.

The screens sole purpose is the evenly distribute the air flowing across the resisitors in the maf. When this is removed it skews all the numbers to your maf and you will start seeing crazy reading from it or fuel trims that should be negativ mysteriously go positive

The GMAF doesnt have any calibration tables. this will make or break you when you are trying to tune since the maf and its values will be an unknown.

if you go with a ZO6 maf you don't need to re-tune but you will pick up a few horses (3-5) to the rear wheels, and throttle response is alot crisper
