Installed lt's got ???

hey i just installed some kooks lt's with the catted Y on my car and it feels like i lost a good bit of low end torque...i got a m6 car with 4.10's and i got the catted Y cause i got the loudmouth and without cats its just to raspy and its kinda raspy now from 4500 rpms on up but below that is sounds great..my question is how can i get some of that torque back without putting heads on my car??? thanks for any help

Well first off, I would have ditched the cats and put on a catback like Hooker or go with true duals. That would show the benefits of longtubes better and sound better too IMO. You will probably need a tune now. Your O2 sensors are now further back which is going to affect AF mixture. I would install an LS6 intake (if you don't have one already) next. If you do have one, a cam would be next. I personally wouldn't do heads without doing a cam.

Well actually, the 4.10's you already have would be about the only thing you could really do to increaes your acceleration/torque multiplication from a dead stop or low speed roll. I'm surprised you think you lost that much ooomph down low. After I installed my Kooks LT's with catted Y it felt about the same down low (maybe a "bit" more sluggish), but that is with my stock 3.42's. I personally cannot wait to get some 4.10's in to make it a tire roasting machine down low since it already pulls so damn hard from 3 grand to redline after the header install... :eek2:

Honestly, most of this is probably in your head... ;)

That's the other thing to consider - butt dynos are very inaccurate.

I picked up some solid low end torque (sotp) on my setup. Only difference is I have a GMMG cat back.

i dont have the ls6 intake yet and i may have exagerated on the torque i mean it feels a bit more sluggish but wow does it hit hard at 3 grand...and the 4.10s are a lot more fun you will love them and i did have the car tuned..everything was done at rapid motorsports and he did a great job..i tihnk ill have to invest in the ls6 intake and oh yea the cam is deffinalty on the list right after the intake!! thank a lot

Reducing exhaust back-pressure does reduce low-end torque. But it more than makes up for it with hi-end hp. The right cam will get some back, and add even more up top.

all of this talk makes me think more and more of going with an 1-5/8 stepped to 1-3/4 longtube

If you want that torque, throw a cam in it. I lost low end with LTs, but the high end is worth it.

I think the 3" header collector is pushing the torque curve up the scale, which isn't a good idea on a street car. Maybe Stainless Works has the right idea with their headers, they seem to be the only company pushing 2 1/2" collectors. :secret:
