TD's setup on stock manifold and cats?

Has anyone done this or have a way this could be done? What would be neede3d to do this?

GuitsBoy Nov 15, 2004 04:28 PM

Its been done, but both sound quality, volume, and flow will be cut WAY short until you go with some long tubes. Youll need an shop to custom fab the whole thing.

Do you think I would FLOW & SOUND better than the Loudmouth or Rumbler cat-back?

Z28Venom Nov 15, 2004 04:59 PM

The exhaust sound is in the ear of the beholder.. You may like it and some may hate it..

I think that it would sound better than either of those other two..

I think it would flow slightly better than either of those assuming you were gonna re use the stock Y pipe. As far as sound, I know I would like the sound much better, but like vemon said, its up to you.

I've got cats on my true dual setup and it sounds a lot quieter than other off road true dual systems with no cats. But I've got LT's though.

I wouldn't waste money on a dual setup w/ stock manifolds. A catback will do fine. True duals serve cars that are modded way better than close to stock cars...and with your mods I'd stick with a catback. TD's will be overkill.

You'd see more gains with long tubes (you can get painted ones so cheap now) or even Macs through a catted Y pipe and out to a decent cat back (or even better, through a cut out) than through TDs hooked up to restrictive stock manifolds and cats. Though sticking with the stock manifolds and cats even with TDs might actually be closer to 'truly street legal' than the other way.

What about the cost of a setup like this?

Keenov Nov 16, 2004 01:56 PM

The cost really depends on where you go to have it done.

ive got stock manifolds, no cats and straight pipes with chambered mufflers dumped before the axle...i have no h pipe yet so it sounds like 2 seperate 4 bangers running..... its weird....im thinking i need to connect the 2 to equal the flow.... what do u think??

Yes, it should help. If the H pipe is quite long, it may not help flow better due to equalizing pressure, but it should still sound better.

Well, I think I read on ls1sounds that x pipe's sound better, but h-pipes produce more power.

Boondiggys: that car must sound like crap. Does it? Heard a LT1 w/ that similar setup and it sounded loud but horrible.

Actually .. ya got that one backwards. X-pipes produce more HP and H-pipes sound better.

Uno99 Nov 17, 2004 11:49 AM

So a X or H-pipe is a MUST?

Its very highly recommended(read - yes, do it). I prefer the x-pipe route.

BADSZ28 Nov 17, 2004 12:49 PM

Wait to do TDs till you get LTs. They make full systems ready to bolt in. I would think this would be cheeper. Until then, just drop the cat-back and put a turn down on the end of the Y. It really is not that load (quieter than loadmaouth), and you drop about 50lbs. I will be doing this over winter. I run my cut-out open all the time so don't need the CB anymore. But once the budget calls for headers, the TDs are going in.
My $.02

Parks02WS6 Nov 17, 2004 02:15 PM

Lanes can do it but he wants like $700!!!! You can get the custom X-pipe kit from Summit Racing and fab it up. They sound really good and flow well too.

MY neighboor has true duals with stock manifolds and i would imagine stock cats ..because it is super quite for a true duals car...it's not much louder if at all than a v6 with a flowmaster muffler on it...go lt's and orx

Uno99 Nov 17, 2004 03:28 PM

I was thinking i could fab it up and try it on the stock manifolds. After I got LT's I Would only need to fab from the front inlets of the x-pipe to the LT's

Whoops, thanks for the correction.
