Mac's, RT cat's, and corsa...

what do youy guys think? this set-up should sound and perform good.i want macs only because of groung clearance.any1 have probs w/LT's and sportline springs?

Tiger2o69 Dec 15, 2004 09:01 PM

From what I have seen lately macs are doing just as good as lt's.

yeah thats what i heard.

I think that will be a good sounding and great performing set-up. You also will have an easy install, no fitment issues and better ground clearance. If you really want to shine, port the primaries and do the "collector mod" and you will lose little against LTs...

and with MAC's youll get some lovely rasp. Ground clearance is not better for the MACS. Maybe so with the collectors, but the y-pipe hangs low. I wish I had done longtubes instead of the MAcs now

I can confirm the Y pipe issue with mine as well. Still a nice header IMHO and I am happy with it.

well i wasnt going to get the y-pipe.im going to get a jet-hot y-pipe;for the removable internal catsand then ill get my muffler guy to add the extra piece.probably wont get the RT cats.heard they flow well, BUT they are VERY expensive.and why do mac's get a lot of rasp?i had duals w/.o cats and dynomax bullets, talk about rasp!

whats the collector mod?is that when you weld on a 3" collector?is there any other collector's that are better?i heard a flowmaster merge is pretty good.

ive heard corsa on a bone-stock f-bod;sounded sweet.and ive heard it on an f-bod w/G5X3 and hooker headers;sounded f$%^en sick.im going w/it for sure.you should really think about changing those dynatech's(heard theyre really cheap) and maybe add cats.just my .02.

I would tend to stay away from the RT cats. I've installed them on a lot of grand prix gtps over the years and most of them have blow out after two years. Never had a single problem with the Carsounds (94109) that flow better and are cheaper.

yeah thats what i heard,Tim.thanks.ill probably just stick w/the cats that come w/the jethot y.do you sell any of these parts Tim?pm me if you can get me a good price.corsa catback, mac coated headers(no y),and a jet hot y-pipe.thanks.keep the feedback coming.

I"m looking at Mac as well. I have a corsa and BMR springs.
Which Y would give me the best clearance and match up the best,
I plan on running cats too.

I would steer clear of the Jet Hot cats. They are known big power robbers and have a tendency to blow out. Get either the Carsound or Magnaflow cats, they are both the same except the Maggies get a shiny heatshield. These cats have a great reputation and I run them on my QTP Catted Y pipe. Mac headers do a good job for what they are and almost are equal with longtubes up top in the rpm range but the longtubes are king down low and in the midrange. I'm running Jet Hot longtubes, QTP 3" Catted Y pipe w 4" to 3.5" merge collector into a 3" I pipe to my Corsa. It sounds awesome and is hard to describe. Very deep at idle with my cam, sounds very mean and throaty just cruising and at WOT it screams. No rasp or resonance and it's so quiet inside I thought it was tame until I stood outside and got to hear what everyone else hears!!
