LT1's sound better I'm still looking for an exhaust setup. I don't want headers, and I need cats. The best exhaust sound I've ever heard was the clip on ls1sounds.com with the 96 LT1 Z/stock manifolds/edelbrock catback. Can you guys check it out and tell me how I can get my LS1 to sound as close to that as possible. I'mn looking for deep, and that is the deepest I've ever heard on any car to date. Thanks... |
anybody... :lurk: |
Have you checked out the GMMG catback? See if there are any sound clips on LS1 Sounds. They use chambered mufflers and it sounds deep with no rasp. |
Lt1:) |
Yup, go with the GMMG catback. |
GMMG sounds like the car in the clip...Maybe I should listen to GMMG in person  |
LT1's sound way meaner than an LS1. Dont get me wrong, i love the LS1, but i don't think the LT1 can be beat in terms of it's deep & mean exhaust :drive: |
LT1's stock sound bettter then LS'1 with a catback by far. GMMG is close though |
I had a 95 with Borla and now have an 02 with GMMG. I love the GMMG, but I do think that the 95 with the Borla sounded a hair better. |
The reason the LT1's sound better is because of the iron block/heads combo as well as the different firing order. |
yeah though my car now is louder and has the lope, i miss the sound of my lt1 :/ |
Beer can motors can sound good. :) I'd say LT's and true duals. Bullit mufflers might not be what you are looking for, but their are deeper sounding mufflers for duals. |
my corsa system sounds pretty good. not that loud tho but has a deep tone lt1 iron is sweet |

IMO, with just a cat back GMMG is as close as you're going to get with an LS1. You can throw just about any catback at an LT1 and it will sound great, the closest you'll get with an LS1 is LT's with true duals and you already said you want to keep your headers and cats so good luck. |
I had a 96 Z28, Edelbrock shorties and cat-back, stock cam. This car sounded much meaner than my actual 99 Firehawk with 382 stroker, 224/112, SLP long tubes and dual-dual. Performance wise however, the Z28 would have been eaten alive by the Hawk :) Damn! I miss the sound of that Z28! |
What about Corsa?? |

I have both and I generally love just about any set-up I hear on an LT1 (except for the usual Borla or Loudmouth combo with headers - cats). Even that sounds like $hit on the LT1 IMO. :eyes: But generally speaking, an LT1 sounds very deep & mean with just a cat-back change. That clip of the Edelbrock sounds nice, but basically any system (Flowmaster, SLP 2OTL, Hooker, GMMG, etc.) is going to sound "deep" on that motor behind stock manifolds. It usually only gets better with some nice headers (+ cats) and internal engine work. :) I have only the GMMG on my LT1 and the GMMG + LT headers/highflow cats on my LS1 and I really like both set-ups a lot. Even without headers, my LT1 still has a little deeper/throatier rumble although my LS1 is a LOT louder at full throttle and is just plain evil! The headers really WOKE the car up. Before them, I thought my LS1 sounded "alright" with the GMMG, but after, damn! :eek2: That's why I can't wait to get some Macs on my LT1. :hail: So no, you won't really make any LS1 sound like an LT1, but you can make an LS1 sound pretty damn muscular with the "right" set-up. But it's going to take more than just a muffler/cat-back swap... ;) Mike |
a good friend of mine has a 94 LT1 Camaro with Edelbrock TES headers with cats and Borla wide open and it sounds great. If only LS1s sounded that good. |
