Lt's or Mac mid lengths? I'm getting ready to buy headers for my 2002 z and wanted to get some opinions...Currently i'm leaning towards mac midlengths, non catted y pipe and then to my borla...I've also considered pacesetter long tubes w/ ypipe and borla but I can't seem to make up my mind....Thanks in advance Kevin |

I got the macs, and i dont know about 23RWHP, but i havent dynoed it... Anyway, i gained probably around 15-17RWHP, with the setup still using stock exhaust. |
I would say depends on where you drive, I put longtubes in my formla and they gave good power but scraped on speedbumps and were generally a pain in that respect since I had to travel over them very often. of course that was there only problem, except for the fact they were a pain to install. nowwith my 01 TA I really only want to get mids. They seem to dyno with the same horsepower as longtubes, but have more clearance and are easier to install. When I did my longtubes I had to keep raising the car higher where I felt uncomfortable, I was very safe with it, but when you raise the front of a car up 2 ft in the air you start to wonder what would happen if it comes down. The mids can be installed through the top. My longtubes required me to make o2 extensions and move several electrical items like starter wires and ABS wires so they wouldn't melt, it was a pain. If the mids give just as much power I sse no reason to go with longtubes |
Ive been very happy with my Macs and Borla. It is very raspy, but is music to the ears at wot. My power levels are as good or better than my buddys with LTs. Im not saying they make better power, just comparable power. My .02 Paul |
I had MACs with a S2 head/TR224 cam setup. I just switched over to the new Edelbrock long tubes and am thoroughly impressed. The car was no slouch before, but now, the car is incredibly responsive and impressive. Yesterday I took the car to work and babied it all the way there. On the way home I started to play a little. I would short shift out of first at about 2500rpm into second gear. Just simply rolling into the throttle at 2500rpm in second broke the tires loose up to 4000 rpm in a heartbeat. It is such a noticable difference from the previous macs I had. I haven't even been able to spin it up high yet due to traction issues and not having any great roads to run on around here. My only issue with them is a couple little exhaust leaks around the connections with the ypipe which will get addressed when the car gets on the brother-in-laws lift. Long tubes all the way. |

But when my MACs rust out, I may switch to LT's. But will I need a retune? s'up nasty (Flyin Haw'n) :) |
I forgot to mention that my car is lowered. That's why I was leaning towards the midlengths for clearance issues but I don't want to hinder hp... My motor is stock right now w/ borla, lid & 4.10's and will probably only do a cam in the futre..... |

That's exactly what's on my car. I took about 4 hours to correctly port the shit out of the primaries ... what a nice SOTP difference! I did the MAC's, MAC ORY, Jantzer ported TB, LS6 intake, and 28.8 injectors at the same time. The gain was unbelievable once I had it tuned. |
I have Mac mids, ORY, cutout, and recently put on Hooker Aerochamber instead of my loudmouth. I was amazed with the headers. I was running 13.8 in summer heat (mid July in St. Louis. (My best with no mods was 13.34). I put the headers on (with cats at the time) and instead of 13.8 went 13.4 on a similiar night I also recently put a 347 H/C in my car. TEA 5.3L Stage 2 heads and Comp XE-R 224/224, .581/.581 112. I haven't actually gotten on it yet but my car still feels unbelievable. |
I am running Macs.I am very pleased with them went this route because of my sportline springs BTLFEDSS |
Long tubes no contest. |
I dont drive an ls1, but i will put in my vote for long tubes... i drive a lowered car as well, and i think long tubes are the way to go... my friend has mac mids and though i have not raced him, i am curious to see the difference... LT's are sweet, but im not gonna bake a bullshit claim about them adding a million more hp than mids... |
I would guess 5 more rwhp with the LT's vs. the MACS. |
I got 102 rwhp from Hooker LT's, G5X2, cutout, and ASP pulley. I think the gains from the LT's alone must have been about 25-30 rwhp. Oh!, and this was with a custom catted y-pipe (carsound cats 94109's). I'm sure there were a few more ponies without cats. |
