Question Restricted Intake Motorsport Conundrum...

Hi, I'm looking at using an LS1 or 6 for some off-road motorsports.

Unfortunately, the rules are pretty strict and state that a restrictor plate of DIAMETER 37.2 mm must be used in the intake - all air for the engine must come through this orifice. I can use forced induction, but would rather not due to the weight penalties it incurs.

From the Regs:
"2 valves per cylinder rocker-arm engines
(camshaft in the engine block)
with a cylinder capacity greater than 5400 cm3: 37.2 mm"

Also:

"For petrol engines, the maximum volume between the restrictor
and the gasket between the manifold and the cylinder head is set
at 22 litres."

And:

"For petrol engines, the compression ratio is limited to a maximum
value of 10.5/1 at any time."

I suppose my question is really as basic as: is it possible to get any real power out of the engine with this massive limitation?

Please help if you can tell me what I might expect in terms of maximum performance, or whether I should maybe look for a smaller engine. There is no restriction on engine capacity, except that the minimum allowed weight of the vehicle increases with capacity.

Cheers, Al.

Do some research on the Cadillac CTS-V racecars. I believe they got slapped with a restrictor last year.

having been on the motorsports project at Georgia Tech an alcohol, water injection or pump gas injector before the restrictor plate will drop the intake charge air temps and increase it's density (hp increase) perfectly legal too

Default Help!

Thanks for the input guys, but has no-one actually ever run an LS1 with a restrictor plate?

Surely SOMEONE has used one SOMEWHERE for motorsports???

Does anyone know where I might be able to ask apart from this forum?

Have I posted in the right section?

Cheers, Al.
