HELP! My 180* stat won't fit, my stock one comes out of its housing?!?!?!
So, I have the tstat out right now, and the hypertech one piece (housing and tstat) won't fit. The stock unit in my '01 is 2 pieces, the tstat comes out of the housing. It almost seems as if I have an '04 housing or something. Has anyone seen this on an '01? None of the local CSK or Autozones have it, and they list the same PN for all LS1s up through '03 and they don't have a listing for '04. I know the trucks and GTOs switched in '04, but it seems like I hav that same deal. I can post a pic if that might help, but I clearly have a two piece deal, unlike the 1 piece that it is supposed to be...

The above pic is what I have, and what they list for an 04-05 GTO.
Above is what my 180* hypertech tstat looks like and what SLP lists for 1998-1992 F-bodies

But is that really a good idea to go with the 160*. The guy that did my tune recommended a 180* stat, and not the 160*. He set the fans to come on earlier, but I don't remember what temp exactly. That's the reason I got the 180 to put in their. It would be a waste to get a 180* since the new pump comes with a 187*, but is the 160* a good or bad idea? I have read tons of info, both good and bad. Anybody care to share anymore?

Well, I rarely see temps below freezing and run a 160 with my fans set at 184/175 and 194/185 year round w/out any problems. My low speed fans cycle when it's cool, and high speed cycles only when the weather gets warmer. Your fans will come on whatever he set them at, regardless of what tstat you install.

Would like some details on what the new pump is? Is this an LS2 unit? Forgive my ignorance, as my Y2K has the one piece thermo, which I modded to a 160* by shimming w/a bb sized piece of metal.
