Kooks LT's fitment problem My friend and I tossed some kooks on my car last week. The passenger side header is close enough to the kmember/a-arm to cause a vibration. Has anyone else had problems like this? I have some prothane motor mounts I'm going to toss on this week, my stock motor mounts have 75k miles and ~500 1/4 mile passes on them, maybe that will lift the engine back up the 1/8" or so I need. |
Yeah, toss those new motor mounts on them. Also if you need to, look at the tranny mount and get a poly one as well. I havent' heard anyone experiencing any problems with vibrations, just the y pipe banging the floor, which is solved by the motor mounts and possibly tranny mounts if they are bad. |
Kooks are hitting the k-member? First time I heard that. I would send em back. |
What size are they, my 1 7/8 were one hell of a tight fit and did not go in easy by an means. Compared to the 1 3/4 that just slide in. There's a big difference in fitment issues. Just letting you know. |
I have stepped headers and I had to raise the motor on the drivers side to get that one in. Mine is real close to the K-member on the passenger side as well, not hitting, but thought it might when I went WOT. I ground the lip down on the K-member just a little bit to be sure it wouldn't. Poly mounts will help reassure it won't hit as well.. Dan |
My 1 3/4 Kooks are a close fit, but slid RIGHT in. i don't have any vibrations yet, and i have ~5k miles on mine. |
Out of curiosity, can some of you look under your car at the passenger header and see how much clearance there is from the back side of the K-member and the header tube? Mine was like 1/8" space. Of course 1 3/4" headers are gonna have more room, but I can figure that in from my 1 7/8".. Dan |
Mine are 1 3/4, they went in fine, I had to have my friend finish up the job cause I had to work, but I got under the car to finish up the tq arm and didn't notice anything. I had to go to the exhaust shop to get my 'custom' catback fitted to the y-pipe, that is when under the lift the exhaust guy and I noticed how close the header was. I felt vibration from the car, but was pretty sure it was my not completely attached y-pipe and the mega exhaust leak. After a closer look, we realized it was the header. The mounts will go in tomorrow so hopefully that will cure the problem. |
