Default X-pipe and dual exhaust with stock 98 manifolds

Would it be a waste to do an x-pipe and duals with the stock, restrictive manifolds? I only plan on doing shorty headers in the future(ca smog). Should I wait untill I do shorties for a dual exhaust, or will it still be worth something with the stock manifolds?

not a waste at all. you can use the bassani dual made just for your situation. here's the results from my testing of stock exhaust vs open cutout vs bassani tru-dual.

distance ---stock ----- cutout --- Bassani
60ft ------ 1.987 ------ 2.074 ----- 1.969
1/8 ------- 7.902 ------ 7.912 ----- 7.739
mph------- 93.20 ------ 93.97 ----- 98.60
1/4 ------ 12.102 ----- 12.080 ---- 11.814
mph ----- 117.12 ----- 118.06 ---- 121.35

Where is the best place to buy the bassani set up? Is there a kit that includes the piping from the x-pipe to the muffler? How much?

I would love duals, but this sounds pretty expensive. Does anyone know if the gains are much better than say, swapping in a new y-pipe and I-pipe?

the link provided gives the price for the bassani. 949.00 for stainless and 799.00 for aluminized. when you compare it to most other single pipe catbacks and aftermarket y-pipe(the x-pipe replaces the y-pipe), you are spending same or maybe little more or less. when comparingthe borla and slp y-pipe vs bassani, the bassani was cheaper. it's all in the post.

True duals will make more power, and TSP's are less than some catbacks. Even if you had a custom set made, it would more than likely be cheaper than a high end cat back. The only way you might end up spending more is if you went with long tubes add that in and the price almost doubles. There is no reason that I can think of not to run true duals on manifolds, if you wanted to add long tubes later on it shouldnt be that hard. Or you could go with Bassani's like mmr12 said, I looked into that system and the main turn off for me was the cost.

It wouldn't be a waste. Just be sure to get some LT's in the future, to really see the gains from the duals. I love mine. Awesome sound, with no rasp.

I think Lane makes his duals where you can fit them to stock manifolds. you should PM him if you are looking into duals and see what he can do.
