Thumbs up Ceramic coated or stainless steel headers? Which is better??

Ok guys... ive narrowed it down. I'm going with the top of the line in headers. Either Kooks, JET HOT, or SLP. This is my final question about headers before i go out and buy some. First off, thanks to everybody who has helped me to this point... anyways, on to the question. Ceramic or stainless steel? I've seen pictures of headers, only 3-6 months old, nice ceramic coated headers that looked awesome going in, now looked like they SH*T! I know the weather in my state is kinda bad, New Jersey. So i'm really leaning towards the Stainless. Well, if i get Stainless steel, does it already come with a ceramic coating, or do i have to get it coated or does it need one at all? Cause if it's just stainless steel, won't that get hot? I don't want to worry about getting my headers hot to where my hood starts to melt. lol! Well that's it, let's see what you guys come up wiht now. Thanks, take care!

Ideally both! Get stainless and have them ceramic coated or just get stainless. Out of your choices I'd get the kooks.

If ur not going stainless go with pacesetter. No point in wasting more money than u have to on coated headers. Coated headers are all headed to rust heaven sooner or later so no point in shelling out more cash for the same results.

I've got a set of the coated Pacesetters. My car gets the hell driven out of it 8 hours a day and gets water, dirt, etc, etc, all up under it on a daily basis from jumping through the center medians on the Interstate.

With all that said, I've had the Pacesetters on there for 6 months and with basic washing of the engine every 2 weeks, they still look like new.

Just my .02

Uncoated stainless will hold in heat better than uncoated steel headers, but not as well as ceramic coating will. For the ultimate in low underhood temps, you can't beat coated stainless, but you should be fine without it. It just depends on how much $$ you want to spend.

Also, stay away from the SLP's - they have a reputation of difficult installs and poor ground clearance.

To answer your question, hands down stainless steel headers are better. they will last MUCH longer then ceramic coated. thats not to say ceramic coated if you treat them right wont last, but no matter how you cut it stainless is better. -Jim

Stainless would be the best choice, but coated are pretty good too. I just put Jet-hots on my car because I wanted to save the money versus buying stainless (I don't drive my car in the salt though, so I expect the Jet-hots to last a long time).
