I'm mad, I need some help! So I went to my local muffler shop--two of them to be exact-- and I asked them about putting a true dual setup on my 02 TA. I took in a copy of jrp's post about Duals in the "MOD GUIDE" thread. Both places told me that there is no way that this can be done. It would take a whole lot of changing around things in the rear in the axel area. Can someone give me any pointer as to how I can explain this. They say if I go under the axel, there will be no clearance and it will rub and eventually just be ripped off. They also said that their really is no way to go over the axel. Can someone help me out. I really want true duals but it just seems like I can't get anyone to do it. I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks. |
hey i had the same problem with finding good exhaust shop. you are just goiong to have to be patient and find a shop where the guy working actually has some skills. The problem also is that some of the bends get pretty tight for a non-mandrel bender to do. I have my system done, needs a new x-pipe, but both pipes run in the tunnel area, under the drive shaft. The pipes are tack welded together so as there is no rattling. they both then go over the axles on the passenger side. Ohh i have the bmr upper panhard bar reloaction kit, this helps a lot for clearance. I then have the pipes wunning to 2 6" round magnaflows. sounds amazing and i get complements all over the place. Ill try to get some pics but its pretty ugly right now, just put long tubes on, no cash to get them hooked up correctly till the summer. |
I had that problem as well on my last car. I don't what it is about exhaust shops, but you can't tell those guys anything. They just automatically know everything. When you get it done, take it back to them and show them how "IMPOSSIBLE" it really is. Just look around and maybe post up in the regional forums. You'll find someone. |
Those mufler guys are pussy's. They just are'nt talented enough. :jest: |
yeah look around and be patient.try looking for a shop that does performance exhuast they will probably more willing to take the work.the reason most shops wont do it is because it is alot of work, especially if you want manderal bends.they are going to have to piece together and do alot of welding, since the majority dont have manderal benders to do it in one piece.using the regular benders they are still going to struggle a bit.tell them that you will leave it for a couple of days and to take their time(if thats possible with your schedule)there are exhuast shops out there with very talented workers that will want to help you. |
Agree with the above post about finding performance minded exhaust shops, dont bother with Midas/Mineke etc.(No disrespect intended, but more about replacement than modifications). You will find the guys with the most skills at the performance shops check some of the local boards in your area for help. |
