Default Awesome! Blew a hole in my FLP header - WTF!?!

I'm at a loss for words...

Drove to and from the store and on the way back, the car sounded funny...

Popped the hood, and:

WTF would cause that?!?!

Any fix? Like, patch weld it or something?

It was where the air tube use to go. I have heard of a few people that had that happen with different brands of headers. I guess it's a weak spot in some. I don't knwo what you can do to fix it. I would guess just weld a piece over the hole.

Interesting thing about that.. I've *NEVER* had the AIR system hooked up to it.. not like it was under ANY stress what so ever..

Good to know my $1200 was well invested in a quality product.

x2. only really seen it w/jet hot and hooker lt's.

are FLP headers stainless? thought they were coated. if SS, i wouldn't think they used the same high quality 304? that kooks and QTP uses.

Do any of you have an opinion as to if I can 'patch weld' this thing? Or am I shopping for another set if headers?

That happened to a buddy of my a couple years back on his LT1 shorty headers. But, his hole wasn't THAT BIG! He had it spot weld I believe and it's been fine since.

You shouldn't need new headers, that can be fixed.

You should be able to patch that. And no FLP's aren't SS. Here a pic of what my old FLP's looked like when they were less than a year old. I had to send them back at my expense to have them re-coated.

It's happened to the $$$$$ LG corvette stainless steel headers. It's a weak spot that over time from the change in temperatures i assume flex that small bead-weld, and make it pop off. It's happened to mine also(hooker LT's), and i just welded it shut, and moved on.

I had that happen to my Hooker LT's. In order to repair it, the header had to be removed. It is a tight space and the AIR Tube is not easy to weld around unless the header is removed. After that happened, I bought race headers and don't have to worry about that weld.

I've never had AIR on my in years.. I'll just seal it shut if they can do it on the car. What a PITA if I have to take it off.

That's doesn't look like a bad weld. If it was you would see weld still there.

If its like the others that have blown off their AIR tubes, what the problem was, that they were welding dissimiliar metals and did not get the penetration into the primary tube. If he can find the AIR tube, it probably still has a 'nice looking' bead around it base. Good looking welds are not always good welds.
