deleting o2's
 

I have headers on order and I would just like to delete the rear o2's. What is the best way to do this?

See if someone in your area has HPTuners or the like for a 2000 LS1. Give them a little money for their time (hell, they may not even charge you), and they can take care of it for ya.

If you have hp tuner or ls1 edit. If not you'll need o2 sims.

Or live with an SES light, until you get the car tuned for LTs, which i suggest.

I lived with the SES light for a year, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a way of pulling the codes every once in a while...I was throwing a front O2 code for a while and didn't know it. Kinda hard to tell if something is really wrong with the damn thing always on...

I agree, best way is to locate somebody that can delete the codes. Might as well rip the air and egr systems out at the same time and delete those as well.

Alternatively you can buy a pair of O2 sims. I don't like them, in one year I had two go bad on me, and they are kind of expensive. BUT if you can't get the codes deleted it is probably better to get sims than it is to stare at that stupid light and never know if/when you have other codes.

BTW: Did you order O2 extensions already? A lot of people end up buying O2's made for the corvette and they dont requre extensions to reach. Might want to go ahead and replace the sensors now.

A good point indeed...make sure you budget for some new O2 sensors. With LTs, it is usually a matter of when, not if, they'll crap out on you. Mine lasted for ~1 year...

Lack of heat, actually. Headers lose more heat to the atmosphwere because of thinner walls and greater surface area (typically) and the sensors are further downstream. It can also lead to a rich condition, I do believe.

ohhh ok, thanks. i thought headers lowered temps, but then it didnt make any sense that sensors would go out from lack of heat? still dont get it? but my Q was answered!

I don't really get it either. :lol: That's just what I've read on here. You get LT's, your O2 sensors end up going bad. The code you often end up getting even says something to that effect. (mine did)

Yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense, but if you think about it, O2 sensors have to be at a certain temperature range to operate effectively. My guess is that since the exhaust gases are a little cooler, it causes the O2 heater to work harder, and eventually crap out. Just a wild ass guess, but it makes sense in my head ;)
