newbee q's for some mods Hello everyone, new to the thread, I just bought a 98 camaro,a4, about 2 weeks ago. i have raced it 3 times, I lost a race sunday nite to a 5.0 mustang that give me 2 and the hit 1/4 mile, and i lost, so now i am ordering some mods just wandering if y'all think it will be a good combo. hooker lt's, tru duals, no cats, with 1 chamber flowmasters, 4.10 gears, around 3000 stall{not quite sure yet exact stall}hidden juice, and a set of 255/50/16 bfg drag radials. juice will be a little longer. b4 it gets on, what do y'all think of my combo, and how fast do u think 1/8 and 1/4 mile. sorry such a long thread, thanks stevie |
Check out jrp's sticky at the top of the external section. Do some reasearch before spending alot of $$ on things you don't need. Start with boltons LT's, lid, ls6 intake mainifold, Eshaust ect.. |
Welcome. I'm curious, what do you mean when you say a mustang gave you 2 and the hit 1/4 mile? |
he gave me 2 whole car lengths and the break, 1/4 mile and beat me by about a whole car length, and took 500 from , so i am going to get my money back. i took some money from his partner earlier in the day, which he had a ford lightning, i beat him, we run head up 1/4 mile in the street |
Gotcha, pardon my ignorance. :) |
Keep the racing off the street and on the track-it works out much nicer and safer Im gonna say 12.6 sec 1/4 mile with those mods There are dangers however with your setup: Flowmaster mufflers are restrictive but the TD's would make up for it-so ground clearance may be an issue 4.10's in the stock 10 bolt is a NO-NO the only way i see it at all working is with a T/A Aluminum differential cover and/or a stronger posi w/ suspension. not daily driver friendly either Those drag radials stick so hard that you will most likely break something in your rear end. They are not for daily driving either, it is also said they hook better at the track then ever on the stret. The Nitto 555R are said to hook better on the STREET. but who knows it could be jsut a myth Do some reseach- clikc on Member's list and search for JRP or go to the NEW LS1 OWNERS & ENTHUSIAST thread and check out the Stickies |
QUOTE: Flowmaster mufflers are restrictive but the TD's would make up for it-so ground clearance may be an issue You probably didn't notice that the flowmasters he stated were the 1 chamber flows. Mufflers don't get any more free flowing than those. You are probably thinking of the 80 series chambered. :) |
so y'all dont think 4'10's will be a good gear, will it tear stuff up? |

Start out with the bolt on's..THEN think about a cam/heads package, 3:73 gears might be a better choice with an auto car and get the T/A cover for added strength. Good luck and welcome to the site!! |
whats the t/a cover and cheapest place to get it |

you really need to become friends with the search button and all its glory. it could answer most of your questions. do some research before you buy mods just to beat one guy. have an overall plan for the car, it works out much better that way. |
it's not just 1 guy its going to be a lot of guys. i have been doing research and what i can get the hooker lt's for, i feel they will be the best for me. the 1 chambers b/c they are very free flowing, bfg d/r so i dont spin, and 4'10's so i get there quick. and my overall plan is to win as many races possible. |
Hey GETCHA SOME, check your PM's. |
4.10s are too much gear, 3.73s for an auto and a bigger converter, 3600+ and if traction is an issue, get DR on wider rims, either SS's or Z06 wheels, plus you get the added look factor |
